If you get lemon cuckoos and buffs from Bobbi you can expect more of the same! This baby didn’t have a vault but she already has a very floofy head! She is really beautiful - I think Bobbi offers some of the nicest looking silkies that I’ve seen!
Sorry to hear about the straight combs - that is so hard to figure out. I hate those undesirable recessive genes, they are so difficult to breed away from. Glad you have a few to keep though. And sorry about the frizzle chick that you lost, that is so hard!
In case anyone comes across this thread in the future I decided to put 3/4 of the shipped eggs developing in the incubator under the broodies. It’s a huge leap of faith in my girls to trust them with these eggs. I also had 4 local eggs in the incubator to test and see if they fare better than...
Debbie, thanks for the reference to that thread! I have a hen that is black with a brown head and neck (I call her a gold birchen though I actually have no idea what she is - she was born solid black, not partridge) anyways I was thinking maybe I would end up with chicks in a similar pattern or...
@janiedoe Sorry this is not the best photo but you can kind of see the faint “stripe” pattern on her. Or is it just my eyes playing tricks on me?? She also has a hint of red to her comb which makes me think cuckoo. She’s about 8-9 weeks old (and hopefully she is a she!! Her comb is tiny which is...
So sad and sorry to read about your little one not making it. It is so hard. This thread was very informative and I am concerned now because I have been using paper towels in my turners because they are sized for regular eggs and mine are all bantams. I wonder if this has been affecting my hatch...
I have read a few other threads about this but most don’t have updates on what happened.
Has anyone successfully put shipped eggs under a broody during the second half of incubation? I have 3 broodies so I’m not too worried about them being abandoned or anything. I have had horrible hatches...
That is so awesome!!! I love that you were able to get some money for them! It seems like around here it is hard to even give cockerels away!! I am thinking that I might have one more girl so 2 girls/7 boys lol!!
Oh Debbie, so sorry your egg order was delayed :( That is so sad! I probably would have been so impatient that I would have said “just send me whatever you have!” 😂 the buffs will be worth the wait though! Remind me how many buffs you were wanting??
Question for Debbie and everyone else too - I...
Edit: I re-read your post - is the picture a cockerel? Sorry from this angle he looks all pullet 😂 And he doesn’t have his red comb and wattles yet!
Original post:
What a gorgeous cuckoo pullet!!!! Ugh you’re making me want to try and get more cuckoo eggs! I had 1-2 in with my Bobbi order but...
I agree with @2ndTink keep the adorable frizzle and rehome the NN roo. That frizzle is so beautiful! It reminds me of two frizzle chicks that I have that are “silver laced satin” they don’t have the awesome cuckoo tail though 😍
They are both so so pretty!!!! I think for me - if I was going to use the roo for breeding - I would probably have a slightly easier time letting him go because of the orange leakage on the head - I try to avoid leakage when possible, I know that a lot of Roos have pretty significant leakage...
Oh they are gorgeous Debbie!! You should keep a few to grow out and see what they look like!😉 I do think the first is either blue or blue splash and then I would go with your judgement on the rest being chocolate or mauve as I have never had a chocolate or any variation of them! I have tried a...
Thank you @GirlsHuntToo and @Debbie292d you guys have given me a little hope!! Here are a few random pics I had.
The first is a NN with very flat crest. The other NN has a better poof but I don’t have a pic of it.
The second is one that looks like a girl based on the comb - I think this...
