I guess I would describe a typical chicken eyelid as closing "bottom-to-top." This chick's eyelid closes "back-to-front," like it's rotated 90 degrees off the normal axis.
The only potential neurological symptom I've observed is extreme drowsiness/constant nodding off in the first chick.
I think the slipped tendon suggestion may be correct, at least for chick # 2. When at rest, one of his legs tends to rotate inward (similar to a "pigeon toe" if he was standing...
Hoping someone might be able to shed some light on a condition that I've encountered twice in the past week. When I came out to the enclosure to check on my older chicks one morning last week, I noticed that one of my Icelandics (~6 Weeks old) had gotten its leg stuck in the feeder at some point...
Aside from the skull/eye deformity, the chick is actually thriving. I'm guessing its a pullet, based on the early wing and tailfeather development. She's actually one of my largest chicks for her age and is extremely active. She is usually the mastermind behind any escape attempts from the...
I just hatched a barnyard mix chick (dad is a Easter egger, mom is a Australorp x Cuckoo Bluebar cross) that appears to have one eyeball bulging out of the socket. To my untrained eye this looks like it may be due to skull deformity as opposed to trauma. The right eye (the one that is...
Looking for the equipment to keep the predators away from my "slightly-less-than-free" range flock. Hoping to find a solar powered outfit. Would need to ship unless you are in Eastern NY or Vermont.
Thanks!
Hi! I am warming up my incubator (Nurture Right 360) for my first attempt at hatching eggs. These eggs were shipped, and I would really like to maximize my chances of a successful hatch. The eggs are currently resting (going into the incubator tomorrow). I have the incubator all warmed up, and I...
I'm looking at landrace breeds due to their natural free ranging capabilities. From what I hear, Basques are the least flighty/timid of the landrace breeds toward humans, and the best for egg production. Also looking at Swedish Flower Hens.
Has anyone done business with them? They are responsive on Facebook messenger but something seems off. Their only online presence is this facebook profile. They claim to be located in Dallas, TX, but I don't get any results when I search for them on Google.
Hello,
I know it's a long shot, but does anyone in the area raise and sell Basque hens (Euskal Oiloa Marraduna)? They are completely sold out online (Greenfire, Meyer, etc.).
Thanks,
Scott
