The title. I really like the idea of a hoop house since it's cheap and easy to make, but relatively strong, and portable in the tractor form.
But, I'm worried about tornadoes and rain. How much of the "run" area needs to be covered to keep from becoming a mud bath, and will the wind be too...
That's "daily average." So I'm assuming that they mean there will be 30⁰ days, and 70⁰ ones. But that's good.
I put them out today, and they went all day without even huddling, so I think they're fine at 60⁰
Unfortunately, I won't be able to answer your questions, since I'm a fellow noob to vaccinating chicks.
I was wondering if you tried selling the other doses to fellow chick owners. Just an idea. There may not be a market, but I know that fish hobbyists frequently sell meds they don't need...
Update, and questions.
Update, the picking on each other has stopped. Once in a while I hear a pain/alarm screech, but I think it is more to do with them being startled by someone flying around the 2x3 brooder LOL.
They really enjoyed the sod chunks I put in there, but I only have put 2 in...
Thanks. I'll monitor it. Doesn't look like it's causing a blockage at the moment. And I'll add the grass and a roost today so they can have a nice place to play and roost. They seem very happy, making the trill "happy" noise they make (not the shrill one they call when they think they're gonna...
I should add, a couple have just a tiny bit of waste clinging to their rears. Just a little bit. Is that something I should worry about? It's not blocking anything, but is definitely there.
Should I add a second heat emitter with a roosting bar they can sleep on and not sit in their own waste...
Oh, I didn't clarify well. I'm talking about a chunk of sod. I'm starting a garden, so I have sod chunks I was thinking about tossing in with the chicks to occupy and nurture (and maybe inoculate) them. The grass is as tall as they are, but it's basically crab grass, so I think they'll be fine...
Great! I'll definitely do that next time to keep them. Way better than them pecking each other from boredom LOL
and I'll definitely be adding that dirt and grass. How much should I add? Like 8x8"? Brooder is about 2x3'.
Chicks doing MUCH better now! Thank you all for the help, especially about the lights.
They do occasionally peck each other, but not as much as before. I added a shiny putty knife as per the TSC employee, and that helped, turning off the lights helped a bunch too. Now they are happily...
