What did you do with your flock today?

:welcome Welcome to this thread as we are a fun, and sometimes serious group who loves to share life and chicken raising adventures, support each other through hardships, and laugh together, sometimes at each other. Chicken math is a serious subject. One equation not included should be that all...

They are beautiful and growing up so fast. Only time will tell. Do these get the sharp hackle and saddle feathers? What will you do with all these roos?

What does the O stand for? Maybe I got a breed that the hatchery has a different name for? You know your breeds. I love their feathered feet. Didn't know until I got them.

What did you do with your flock today?

I finally have some pictures of the not so little girls. That's a big girl in the foreground of the first pic. All are having a great time foraging, chest bumping, running to get treats. Changed all the feed to 19% for everyone, so no worries about the pullets getting unintended calcium until 6...

What did you do with your flock today?

The Onyx saga continues. She perked up yesterday afternoon, went on her roost, chases after treats with the rest of the girls.looks a little better. Has anyone ever had a half molt? She is still not done yet. The pullets are coming to get treats when I shake the container. One bravely roosted...

What did you do with your flock today?

Thank you for your hugs.. Recently read that cancer and tumors are more common than we think, in birds as young as she is. She has gotten where she doesn't want to roost, and just sits in the yard until she basically goes to bed. Looking for a cull person in my area. So sorry you lost your 2. No...

What did you do with your flock today?

Onyx has gone downhill further. After yesterday, when she was so excited about treats, I thought she had bounced back. When I came home this evening, she was by herself just sitting on the grass. I went to catch her, and she went in the space under the coop, just standing there, now just sitting...

We did not have a long cold winter, only one week of temps below 20°F, and these mites have been relentless. Hopefully this last spraying with spinosad will give residual killing effects. I've been checking just about every day. They've been hatching out often, as if the weather is like...

Seems you have a never ending parade of beebies. Keeping fingers crossed for your buyers.

Grrrrr, the mite battle continues. Found another big batch had hatched and sucked on my girls in the last day or so. Got out my equivalent of Elector PSP, which is Dead Bug brew diluted 1:4. I hope it has residual killing power. Does this seem early in the year for this?

I think you're thinking of trichinosis. Recently, pork has been much safer, and can be served at 145 degrees F. The only raw meats I give the chickens is any seafood scraps from our catch.

What’s the deal with you chicken people??

I would be afraid of the extra sodium in canned sardines.

What’s the deal with you chicken people??

Yes, but if small enough, they will eat bones.
