    Your 2024 Garden

Yesterday I ran another row of trellising on the tomatoes. I had to stand on a milk crate this time. That will be as high as I trellis. Any taller they will flop over and keep going. I'm only 5 ft tall! You can see in the photo my potato foliage is dying back. Will be digging these...

Would maybe wrapping the threads with pipe tape help fill the difference? If needed add a bit of caulk? Or plumbers putty?

    Your flower gardens!

Thank you! DH and a buddy built the tree for me and supplied the bottles (beer). 😂 Cobalt blue is a favorite color of mine too. I have several junk pieces, some vases and stuff and an early 1900s med bottle I bought for 50 cents at a garage sale. I love the way sunlight hits them in the...

    Your flower gardens!

Naturally acid soil. Most hydrangeas react to the acidity of the soil. Because our soil is so acid I do not do anything special and they are deep blue. The hard part for me is if I want pink. I'd have to use a lot of lime and do it each year. Determined to have a pink one at least 1 time in...

What did you do in the garden today?

I wish I could have tulips that would come back. In the past I planted some of the Darwin Hybrid tulips. They came back a couple years but got smaller until they disappeared. We just do not have long cold spells to keep them going. This past winter was not cold enough for my peonies. I only got...

What did you do in the garden today?

Some call Datura moon flower. It grows as a shrub. There is another plant also referred to as moon flower. I think it's botanical name is Impomea alba. This one is a vine in the morning glory family. It's flower looks just like the white datura and smells good too. Last year I planted the...

What did you do in the garden today?

Yes it is hallucinogenic and can be toxic. I plant these far away from the chickens. They are in an area where the deer and rabbits destroyed all my hosta. They do not even sniff these. The butterflies, bees and hummingbirds love them. It is amazing the number of common garden plants are toxic.

Avian influenza found in South Carolina

All cows are not fully recovering. Some of the cows after recovering from the virus are not producing milk and do not put weight back on. Some of these are being cullled by farmers. What I do not understand is there is no mandatory reporting as well as only limited testing for cows and workers...

What did you do in the garden today?

My lace cap hydrangea is blooming. Years with a late frost it does not bloom so I am very happy to see it this year. More daylilies are blooming. Datura smell so good. You can smell them across the yard in the evening.

What did you do in the garden today?

Saw this working in the yard yesterday. I did not see a variegated one yet. It's a weed so I know it's coming. Pretty blue flowers and there is my finger. 😆

    Your 2024 Garden

I worked in the garden yesterday. It was a very hot day! I picked more blueberries and a Black Krim tomato. Added some stuff to the compost bin. LOTS of volunteers in the bin. My compost is ALIVE! 😂 Should be seeing blooms on the greenbeans soon. The plants in front of the green beans are...

Avian influenza found in South Carolina

This is not listed on aphis yet. Today, Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) Director Tim Boring announced the detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in an additional dairy herd from Clinton County. Testing through the Michigan State University...
