We have an open coop with sand. I go in twice a week or so and scoop up the poop under the roost and usually by the door. They free range most of the day so there's not much to do really.

What are some techniques you’ve used for predator proofing in and around the rafters without cutting off ventilation . This is a shed roof open coop in Florida. I’m not there yet but I planned on leaving the rafters. Seems like there should be a better way than having to put hardware cloth...

I’ve read talk about ammonia from the manure rising and because chickens have sensitive respiratory systems it’s important for the ammonia to vent out above otherwise it hangs around and they breathe it

Yeah that’s the only thing I can think of that would be big.

So I’m building my 6x6 wall where I’m putting the door in the middle. I was thinking 30 inches but is there any reason to make it wider? It will be the only door. In an open air coop/run.
