    Chicken turning into a rooster

Just sharing an update here …. We had Suprelorin injected into our crowing hen to see if we could keep her and… she stopped! Nothing else changed about her - tho she did molt slightly - slightly less rooster tendencies. She started crowing again about 5 months later. We decided to rehome her as...

my crowing hen - how to keep her in the city

Circling back here… We had Suprelorin injected into our crowing hen and… she stopped! Nothing else changed about her - tho she did molt slightly. She started crowing again about 5 months later. We decided to rehome her as, living in the city, it wasn’t going to be sustainable for us to continue...

using a contraceptive implant (made for dogs) to stop crowing...Anyone ever heard of this?

Just sharing an update here for anyone in this position. We had Suprelorin injected into our crowing hen and… she stopped! Nothing else changed about her - tho she did molt slightly. She started crowing again about 5 months later. We decided to rehome her as, living in the city, it wasn’t going...

using a contraceptive implant (made for dogs) to stop crowing...Anyone ever heard of this?

I'm thinking of doing this with my hen who, similarly is three years old, and started crowing, not laying, though her feathers haven't changed. Any update with your hen?

my crowing hen - how to keep her in the city

I wish I could add more birds! We just have three. She's the lieutenant to the head hen (or was until I removed her from the flock.) Now that she's separate, she seems to be getting the message that she's going to be a solo chicken with this behavior. 😅 Hoping she can be taught new tricks.

my crowing hen - how to keep her in the city

Thank you so much. I'll keep trying. I put it on her yesterday and she... just stood there. Creepy. She would eat but not move at all. After a while, I took it off so she could go back to being a normal hen. I'll try again today. She's quit crowing, except in the morning. I've separated her...

my crowing hen - how to keep her in the city

It seems that my three year old Easter Egger hen has turned herself into a rooster. She won't stop crowing! This happened in the past month or so. Here's her video. We live in an urban environment where roosters are not allowed. With only three hens and she being my daughter's favorite, I'd like...

    Chicken turning into a rooster

Thanks! As I have zero experience with roosters, your comments certainly support my concern about her bothering the neighbors! She doesn't seem much different to me -- her top comb may be longer/bigger. I'm not sure what an EE rooster looks like. With her beard and aggressive nature, plus she's...

Here's a video of her crowing this morning. Sorry for not being able to imbed this for easier viewing.

    Chicken turning into a rooster

I’m dealing with a similar situation and at wits end. Three hens, in a very urban environment. The lowest ranking hen (3yo easter egger) used to fly out of the fenced in area to escape the pecking of the other hens. We covered the run to prevent her escapes last year and it seems like she’s...

Nutritional Support suggestions for healing hen

Hi all, We've had an ill hen which started as the pandemic lockdown began - limp then cough then stopped laying then high white blood cell count then watery stool - to the point that our vet put her on a palliative care path. And now... she's mostly back to her old self (still no laying)...

    Crossing fingers for a hen

My daughter fell down in relief. She's her favorite. And yes, her cheeks and beard! Deep gratitude for the confirmation.

    Crossing fingers for a hen

We live in the city so I'm hoping she's a hen. She's 5 months old as of today. I'd so appreciate the confirmation. And some sort of easter egger? I love the fluffy cheeks. Many thanks!

    hello!

Hi! My family just started with our first chickens just about six weeks ago with day old chicks. We have a Golden Sex Link (Fireball), a White Plymouth Rock (Dust), a Silver Lace Wyandotte (Starlight) and a Black Australorp (Mary). We just set up our coop in the backyard which is exciting to...

Six week chick with lack of feather growth or loss

Hi all, I am brand new to chickens, getting our first four day olds just under six weeks ago. Our Golden Sex Link (Fireball) has been slow to growing feathers around the sides of her neck and tail. I first assumed the feathers were slow to coming in (3 weeks ago) and then thought maybe she was...
