Timing help with broody hen on eggs

Extremely helpful thanks. I'll wait a few. Is the best time work with eggs in the middle of the night, if needed?

Timing help with broody hen on eggs

Hi guys, Hen currently on eggs that are likely fertilized. My question is about development timing in transition to new house/ next box. 3 days ago she sat on eggs and was there for 24 hours incubating. 2 days ago (at night) I moved her and eggs to a new location, in the morning she was on the...

Returning an injured chicken to the flock

Hmmm having never brought new chicks in to an existing flock, I'm not sure. My guess is that she would not take to them. I understand from reading that you can slip a chick under a broody hen and remove an egg, but I don't know about a group of them, or since she's not broody if that will work...

Returning an injured chicken to the flock

Yea, I see that McNasty circles around the back to try a peck but Omelet sees her coming and repositions... seems to be working out unless she's sneak attacked, then she squawks and runs - whether she actually gets pecked or not, she's all drama :) That's a good idea for a summer situation...

Returning an injured chicken to the flock

And... she stayed out all night last night :) Kept peeking in after they went in for the night, she was doing good so we left her and she came out this morning fine!! Thanks for the advice, she's back with her flock!!

Returning an injured chicken to the flock

Omelet stayed out a full day yesterday!! She was dodging McNasty pretty well. I let her walk into the coop at dusk and McNasty was giving her the evil eye but letting her roost, I was excited that she might be able to stay... Then her roost mate started grooming her head feathers, Omelet wasn't...

    Hi From Maryland

Thanks guys for making me feel welcome :) Posting a few of my chicks on their daytime roost... Chicks L to R; Baby, McNasty Chicken (or Chicken McNasty) and Omelet. The others are camera shy I guess. LulaBelle the goat was pregnant as a house (kidded 6 days after this pic) and loved for...

Returning an injured chicken to the flock

Well, we made it 2.5 hours. McNasty flew over a horse stall (@ 5 foot), through the hay stalls and over the coop. Quite impressive really! I let them work it out a little bit, not letting her get a hold of Omelet. However, I was hungry so I called it day and I swear I'd never seen a chicken...

Returning an injured chicken to the flock

Ha! Hubby's in Alaska for work... doesn't know yet :) She's having a great day, I put McNasty Chicken (head hen) over with the goats and scattered BOSS to keep her busy with a friend. Omelet (sick chick) is hanging out with the rest of the girls in the barn... dusting off as we speak. My...

Returning an injured chicken to the flock

Thanks guys! Yea, I feel she needs more time away to heal, I'm really hoping the frequent visits make it less dramatic upon her return!! I didn't even think about dehydration for the comb, I'll offer the electrolytes/water combo again and some more soaked cat food. Now that you say that, it...
