I'm hoping someone out there can advise me on how to treat my chicken, "CoCo". She's less than 2 years old, and about 7 days ago, she stopped laying. I've noticed her appetitie has GREATLY decreased in the past 7-10 days. She's usually always eager for food and dried worms. She "fake" eats...
I've used the fermented feed instructions I copied and pasted into a PDF (attached), which I got from the Chicken-Chick website. I use Scratch 'N Peck organic feed when I ferment the feed. My apologies if this is against the rules.
My flock has found some welcome heat-stress relief with these cold and healthy snacks. You can alter the recipe as per your preferences and fruits/veggies ingredients handy. This recipe (PDF attached) also uses the 'fines' from my S+P organic feed to mix into the treat. Good luck to you and...
Yup. It's hard to see the ones at the 'bottom' of the pecking order getting hassled so much. My girl Maple still likes to 'burrow' under the chests of the bigger girls, and the bigger girls simply do not like that, thus Maple is the easy target. :-(
I found this very helpful, very low cost DIY solution for heating water in my coop, using an empty cookie tin can and a low-watt bulb. It really works!
I have a small flock (6), and no electricity in our coop, so I use an outdoor-rated electric cord.
Note: This info is from another website -so...
Thank you, Lacy. Your feedback is great - and makes really good sense. I'll probably get her a chicken 'saddle' jacket - so at the very least it protects her back/side feathers and may deter the picking by others.
I've tried moving her to the 2nd roost, but she always jumps off that and wants to...
My 1 yr old Americana ("Maple") is lowest in the pecking order of my small flock of 5. I noticed many of her top/back feathers are broken and she looks very scruffy, compared to the others. She is not molting at this time.
I checked for mites, lice and even took her to my vet. She was clean...
We have one WTB in our flock, she’s a real sweetie, and we named her “SweetPea”.🥰 She was 7wks old when we got her in late July, so we’re expecting some eggs soon -maybe January? Here she is (on the left), with her flock mate,”Maple”.
Ours is quite aggressive, assertive... very dominant of the two new ones we just got. How is the "DNA sexting" done? I can also look it up. Thank you!!
I was able to get a pic of this small ‘bump’ on the back of the legs. I FELT a small hard bump on the back of BOTH legs! Yikes. 😳
Does the spur show up that early - in 8-9 wks of age? (Sorry the 2nd and 3rd pic are a bit on the blurry side!)
Anyone else find these on their young cockerels?
