bird death...can someone give some insite?....

I don't have an alternative grit option for them when they're cooped up. I will get one, I didn't think of that actually. I don't think they had any crop issues, I just don't know for sure. We do have good ventilation. We made sure of that last year when we had to build an addition. I thank...

bird death...can someone give some insite?....

ok... I don't think we will be getting them to any university.... Cornell is close but at this point it is not possible for us to do that. No neither (i'm assuming on the first) were egg bound. I was home for the second death so I checked. We have a heated coop because for example it was -4...

What kinda crushed pepper do I give them for the "increased laying"?

ok, i've read this whole thread and noticed a question that popped up a couple times but never got a response (unless I missed it somehow) -do the eggs taste different?- I think i'd like to do this becuase when we have terrible wind and snow and rain mix, we keep the girls in all day and...

    little giant incubator

^ agreed with most of this post! we had an lg and it was great. we had never hatched anything before and did fairly well. def have it in a room with steady temp etc (the manual tells exactly what to do) and i'd say set it up a couple days or more ahead of time just to make sure it's steady...

    Red light?

i won't be of too much help as i don't have ducks... however i believe the red light is for heat. not for keeping them laying. I know we had to change up our window situation for the most natural light to keep our hens laying... we either have the heat (red) lamp on, on a timer in the cold...

hawk visit pics - thank goodness for bird netting!

i'm glad it wasn't able to get your birds! i can't imagine! but with that being said... that's a gorgeous hawk. i'd rather look at them from a distance too.... we have a fake owl up on our coop.... i can't say for sure that it is what is keeping the hawks away but we get fly overs and never had...
