    Stinky sand!

I have construction sand in my run, even though the run is covered, when it rains, the sand grabs the moisture. (my mistake for putting part of the run in a swale) I do get a slight odor at times and remove droppings daily from sand in run and poop boards in the coop. I assume you do not have a...

    For people who scoop daily…

I use construction sand in the run and scoop it daily with a 1/4-inch mesh scooper. In the coop I only scrape the poop board below the roosts, and not the pine shavings on the floor. I do the same with the manure as you.

New Coop Build- Calculations for run and chicken capacity

Run Solid Roof- Absolutely Has a 2-inch overhang on sides, not much but I thought sufficient, so I only use 2 panels on roof. Not sure where I will keep the feed yet, and I do plan on heating the water in the colder months. Not sure on water heater type, but I do have a metal waterer. I like...

I am looking to house 4-6 Barred Rock (2 to 3) and Buff Orpington (2 to 3). I know I can house 4, but what about 6? Thoughts and...

I am currently building my coop, a raised 5 x 6 coop with a run. I am about halfway done after a week, only me building it, no help. I figure after all is done I would in about $1500 in materials. (Everything 21 Hens says is absolutely true, and then the local authorities may want a building...

    Space between well and coop

My guess is that they are saying 100' to be safe, more so for their protection than yours. I say this because if it were truly 100' in the ordinance, they would have said it MUST be 100' from the well. Check the ordinance of the place you live. Then if you decide to put the coop closer to the...
