Sadly you have made it more difficult than it could be as simple as using the right system...
I door that swings down is easier than a door going straight down in a slide fashion.
The easiest actuator around, to let something down by its own weight is an automotive Antenna that goes up or down...
How handy are you doing things on your own?
Read this article, on how to build one for not much money. The "plans' also contain info on how to make a feeder and a waterer.

To analytical:
I live about 45 miles east of you so I am at the same altitude and approximately at the same temperature.
What you can do first is to get a silver-coloured tarp from Harbor Freight and drape that over your whitish coop cover. This will lower the coop temperature a bit more...
The coop, where they sleep (or lay eggs in), should be between 1 and 3 square foot of space.
The run should be at least 4 square foot per chicken, and the bigger the better, if you have the room.
CAUTION.
Depending on the climate where you are, the number of chickens and the coop size should be...
Actually, no need to add windows because a coop is only a place to sleep and to lay eggs.
Just a door during day time to add some light, so the chickens can find the nesting boxes which should be in a dark place anyway.
When it comes to ventilation, you MUST have one (1) sqft of venting area per...
Some of you really make a science project out of keeping chickens for fun and "free" eggs ...
I have been raising chickens (no rooster because of local law) for about 6 years now, and never changed the way I feed them after they are outside in their run and coop.
I feed them "Layer Crumble...
<<There is ice built up on the walls and windows. >>
If that is the case then your ventilation is really inadequate !
The moisture has to be removed by at least 1 sq foot of opening per chicken ! (for passive ventilation)
Or you can add a small 110 volts fan, the size of computer fan, in one of...
A few years back, I started the chicken habit, and the people on this forum helped me a lot with starter ideas.
One of the ideas was a water supply for the chickens that was not susceptible for freezing weather.
I ended up with a *system* that worked but never figured that some day, everything...
OK !!!
Since I have no idea what kind of algae is growing in that tub, I will now make sure that,
after I scrub the container clean and rinse well,
no more algae may grow back.
Thanks for all the help !!
Thank you, will do that and report back.
Since I know that the hens will drink from *anywhere* ...
I figure that that algae stuff is not *bad* for them ???
I have a chicken watering system as shown in this thread:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/937220/share-your-inovative-ideas-here#post_14350776
The water supply in the outside container is always clear (filtered 24/7)
The water supply in the inside container is also clear,
but the bucket is...
Maybe so ... , but those Asian ones were just *salty*, that's it ...
Now yours ... , must have some more then just salty taste (vinegar and spices), so I will try your method.
I do love a lot of stuff *pickled*.
Thanks for sharing.

Aha, I will do your method because the way they did it in the Far East was to put the UN-peeled and UN-cooked eggs in the salt - mixture and it took forever ...at least 3-4 weeks or longer !
