Getting chickens into coop at night.

We had the same issues with our girls. It took about a week of placing them inside before they figured it out. Another week of placing them on the roost and they are close to figuring it out too. It just took consistency. Once 2 went in one night the other 10 followed the following nights.

    Suspicious Minds

Yea! This is our first flock! My husband, typical male was hoping for 1 roo. Guess he would have to wait!

    Suspicious Minds

I have suspicions about 1 or 2 being a roo… thoughts? They are about 8 weeks old. I tried to get decent pictures but some of the (supposed) ladies didn’t feel photo shoot ready. :)

    Interior coop design

Well we are now going to be able to open the bottom portion on 3 sides. Hopefully that will eliminate crawling in poo!

    Interior coop design

I think my husbands head would explode if I asked him to remove the floor. The run will be fully roofed and we are planning on having the food and water in the run for a vast majority of the time. If on the occasion that it is frigid (a few days a year) we would bring it inside. We planned on...

    Interior coop design

Hi we are in central Ohio. We cannot walk into it (it’s raised off the ground). The interior is 6x6 with 3 nesting boxes. The height is about 6ft in the door side and 4 feet on the window side

    Interior coop design

We are preparing for our first coop. We have most of the exterior completed, we are about to begin the interior hopefully this weekend. However I’m not sure how to design the interior for the most room for the chicks and easy to clean. We will not be using the deep litter method and prefer to...

    Rooster? Or hen?

Lol. They are hard to tell them apart but this one has more waddle than the other 3 so I think I’m getting the same one. 😂

    Rooster? Or hen?

I will say in the first picture the comb looks much redder than it does normally . I’m guessing cause the sun.

    Rooster? Or hen?

We got our first flock 6 weeks ago. Supposedly all female chicks but I wonder about this one. She’s 6 weeks old New Hampshire. So what do we think hen or rooster?

Chicken Coops for 12 single ladies

Thank you, we are in Central Ohio where it's not horrible weather but there will be a few spells a year where they probably won't want to go out. We are also rural, so have a lot of predators (coyotes, hawks, foxes, raccoons) in the area so I'm very reluctant to let them free range unless we...
