    Mealworm farming

Quaker wheat bran is expensive comparably. Quaker oats is a cheaper alternative, I have lots of wheat bran and if anyone wants to purchase some just send me a msg. It's easy to ship. Raw potato...everything is in raw, natural form. I cannot keep mine outside because of the humidity. A rise...

    My cat's tail is broken

Hi. My cat broke his tail at the base a couple years ago. Since it didn't seem to damage the nerves in his back or rectum, the vet put a bit of a splint on it (which lasted all of 2 days) and we just kept an eye on it. He uses his tail normally although it did take a while for it to return...

MalMom... email the company along with a photo of these. It might be the quickest way to find out what it is. You can also isolate some to see what they develop into. Good luck and please keep us updated!!!

Hen with little whitish worms coming out of vent. HELP

I've had chickens for quite a while and I never knew this could happen. How sad if that's all it was....definitely could have been prevented had she noticed sooner. I can't stress the importance of handling your chickens and checking them regularly. It was a lesson hard learned. Thank you...

Hen with little whitish worms coming out of vent. HELP

I saw no sign of lice. She told me the hen had been acting 'off' for a while. When I saw her, she had difficulty walking and was very weak. So sad! If it is worms, what kind and how to treat? I don't know why I'm so upset about this but seeing a hen like this really has me worked up.

Hen with little whitish worms coming out of vent. HELP

Was just at a friends because one of her hens are sick and she didn't know what to do. When I picked her up and turned her over, her backside was slimy and wet and she felt underweight and there were small worms squirming in and out everywhere.... I've never had this happen and don't know what...

    The Legbar Thread!

I moved the CL trio into the big coop last night and today, in among the eggs was a tiny blue egg. A little bigger than a robin egg. The CL pullets are only 12 weeks old...hatched 5/19/13. I've never had a chicken lay an egg at 12 weeks.

    The Legbar Thread!

Thanks so much for the encouragement! Keeping my fingers crossed that his comb straightens out a bit. He's about 10 weeks old. I'll have to upload a photo of my trio. They might not be perfect examples of CL but they're mine & I love them!

    The Legbar Thread!

Greetings everyone! I purchased a CL trio a couple months ago from a breeder in Ohio. I love their personalities! However, from reading this thread, it seems I have a sub-par group. Although the roo has great color, his comb has always been curved to the side which throws the tuff off...

    Mealworm farming

There's not a whole lot you can do. Try sifting out the beetles/pupa/worms and put into a new container. Keep it DRY!!! Please make sure, if you're using anything other than store bought rolled oats, to either bake it for 15 minutes at 200 degrees, freeze it for a week or nuke it to kill...

    Mealworm farming

What I've done in the past was shift them out as they grew. It'll take about a month but you won't lose many. I have different sized sifters and sift everything into another container while putting the worms into the new container. After about a month, you'll have most of the babies out and...

Never heard of using dried beans. You'd still need a veggie source. Try it and let us know.

    Mealworm farming

If you're keeping them outdoors, I'd suggest making a screened enclosure for your colony. Might be difficult with a 3-drawer unit but certainly not impossible. Change out the veggies daily....and only use the dryer types such as carrot, celery. NO fruit...no apple, no potato....
