    Bielefelder's SOP

What about the size of their combs? I’ve seen bielefelder hens with medium combs and almost nonexistent combs. Which is closer to the standard?

Is it $80 for just one chicken test?

    Broody hen question

Oh yeah after dark is always better if you can! Although I have had success during the day also! I think it depends on the hen and how committed she is to setting. I would suggest just covering the crate you have her in with blankets to make it dark (while still having ventilation of course) and...

    Broody hen question

Hello! The best time to move a broody hen, I’ve found, is in the middle of the night while covering her eyes to move her to a new location. If you moved her during the day (esp a long distance) you might have disrupted her broodiness. Give her a while to get used to the new environment and...

Good clean design! Love the nesting boxes (sturdy, with a lip to keep bedding inside)! My only critique is you could make the roosting bars thicker and lower so they can be reached and held onto more easily.

Can anyone help me ID these breeds from my friend’s flock? :)

True true, variations are normal. When I said comb I didn’t mean single sorry haha, I meant straight up vs falling to one side, height and depth, colour, etc. You’re right that some small variations are normal though. I suppose my friend will never know definitively without a genetic test haha...

Can anyone help me ID these breeds from my friend’s flock? :)

They are all bantams haha. Interesting thought on the old English games, I can see that in the markings but I see some differentiation in the body shape and comb.

Can anyone help me ID these breeds from my friend’s flock? :)

Yeah, I’m pretty good at breed ID’ing most standard and some rare breeds but I also assumed these were mixed. She said they were “Japanese” which didn’t clarify a whole lot for me lol. I’m guessing the person she got the eggs from wasn’t being completely honest or didn’t know what they were...

Can anyone help me ID these breeds from my friend’s flock? :)

A friend of mine recently acquired some new chickens and asked if I could help ID the breeds, but I’m not 100% sure. They look like a welsummer/legbar and maybe a Cochin/australorp/Japanese? What do y’all think? 😄☺️🙆‍♀️
