Broody to Bator and Back Again?

Great advice. She's quit on me before, but I think that was because I moved her to a place where she was still In view of the coop, and she freaked out trying to get back home. Thanks!

Broody to Bator and Back Again?

I had a broody hen in the coop who just hatched her chicks. There were 3 "extra" eggs developing under her that another girl snuck in there (candled, healthy, developing well). I added those to my incubator, which has a clutch started +/- 1-2 days of those eggs. NOW I have another hen going...

15 large fowl, mixed breeds, in Orange County CA

We have 15 large-bodied birds (not bantam) and they are all VERY good layers (we get 9-13 eggs a day from 15). Ages range from about a year to 2.5 years. Egg colors are mixed: blue, pale green, pinkish, light brown, and very dark brown. Some of these birds are rare breeds! Breeds include...

    The Buckeye Thread

That's my Rhodebar. She's next to my Bielefelder, who is HUGE, and refuses to lay, the freeloader :P. They're both 8 or 9 months old, so their feathers are still new and soft and fluffy. I think that makes them look bigger than they are.

    The Buckeye Thread

I really wish I could! We raise boys for meat, and city ordinance says no roosters, unfortunately. I've had some boys that I loved that I would've kept if I could. Some day we'll live more than 6' from our neighbors...

    The Buckeye Thread

Thank you!! I'm usually pretty pleased with the quality of the birds from MPC, especially since I'm not breeding or anything. They're REALLY good for backyard flock birds!

Thank so much!! It's my first time with the breed, and her comb turning red so early threw me off.

    The Buckeye Thread

Pretty sure I got a Buckeye in my last order of mixed brown layers from My Pet Chicken. Beautiful mahogany feathers, pea comb. Question on sexing - her comb is red (at 8 weeks), and legs are thicker than my other girls. Hackle and saddle feathers are all round, though. Any other traits I...

    A Bielefelder Thread !

They would be a great combination, both friendly, fairly easy-going breeds. My Bielefelders are the sweetest - even the boys are lap birds.

    Partridge Rock Thread

Hey everyone! I hopped bak on the PR bandwagon, after having my heart broken when I lost my original PR to Marek's last fall - to this day, she is still my favorite chicken ever. I was afraid of getting another PR and being disappointed by the personality, so I put it off for a long time, and...
