Could just be from an old injury. I would think it is similar to when a finger nail splits, it keeps growing split unless you can cut it back to where it isn't split. If you can keep it nicely trimmed perhaps it will resolve?

5 are hatched and in the brooder. 3 are pipped, 2 are internally pipped (one being the large air cell shipped egg) and the last 3 are still doing nothing much. Here are the first 5, the two cleanest yellow chicks are from the shipped batch.

If the wet bottom has always been an issue since day one along with the bum leg I would think it's all connected. A genetic deformity that lead to the chick pooping on itself instead of out and away like a normal chick would. Sort of reminds me of urine scald, where an animal in unable to pee...

Then I wouldn't worry too much. If a chick acts normal and is eating and whatnot then it's probably just fine.

Looks like that one had a hard hatch. I see egg shell fragments so my guess it this one might have dragged around some unabsorbed yolk and it may have been torn off if the dried dark stuff is blood, could just be egg goop too. I don't see anything sticking out that should be inside so hopefully...

Morning update, 3 have hatched and there are 5 others who have pipped. I had to help one chick that got stuck zippering, come to find out the membrane got dry and stuck to it's little wing/back feathers. It seems fine so far, just needs to fluff up. The other two got moved to the brooder. 2...

So far 3 pips (one on the wrong end) and one chick pipped and hatched within the 6hrs I was away from home.
