After retiring from law enforcement six years ago, hubby and I bought a 2-acre place with a home and garage. We added a 12x20 Amish garden shed, and hubby partitioned off and made an 5x12 coop on the end, complete with nesting boxes and wood perches.
We started with 3 adult Silkie chickens donated by someone.
We currently are running rooster-heavy with 3 hens now and 3 roosters. Two roosters just roam around by themselves.
I bought some eggs on eBay that one of the hens sat on. We have 6 little ones that I don't know yet what they are, but it would be great if we didn't get any more roosters!
Fast forward a couple of years since I wrote the above, and now we have 11 adult backyard silkies and 8 three-month-old fancy silkies to upgrade our flock. I sell chicks and eggs.
This site is better than an encyclopedia. It's my go-to source for any chicken issues I have, or I see others have in this or other forums to give them some good ideas.
