Any new ideas to minimize feed wastage by baby chicks? I am using a plastic feeder with a screw on jar, on a paper plate. Any ideas besides raising it,?
Tina, When I read this, I was shaking my head. Farmers, for the most part, are the salt of the earth. Your serial killers and sexual predators, almost exclusively come from the city.
If you have a predator in a live trap, set the trap by the tail pipe of your truck. Cover the trap with a tarp (not plastic) and drape the end of the tarp over the tail pipe and start the engine. The animal will take the deep sleep in a few minutes. I have done this with skunks. They don't spray...
I was going to post on the dog issue, but it says at the bottom that I have insufficient privileges to post there. ??? Neighborhood dogs are a problem. I had a neighbor that let his 2 labs out, at night. They always came a dumped my trash over. I finally found out what dogs they were and who...
I trap predators, and this is exactly how not to catch a coyote or fox. Of course, there are some stupid ones around. Go to youtube.com and type in dirt hole set for coyotes and fox. The man here, that pre-baited his trap for several days, did as he should. This is a sure enough method with live...
You are wasting time. Buy you a trap. There are numerous trap companies out there. I prefer and use Pied Piper live traps. Built in Texas. I trap predators and fur bearers, and have used a number of live traps. The Pied Piper is by far the best. They even have one that has a cage on the back of...
We ordered 2 dozen Cream Legbar eggs. They sent 28. Hovabator 1588 with automatic turner. Kept the humidity +/- 50% and 100 deg. Had 10 hatched. Opened the others this morning. There were 2 formed chicks, one that should have hatched, but never chipped the shell. 2 others that were partially...
They're fixed, except for 1 tom cat that decided to call my barn home. Thinking about fixing him. All it takes is a rubber boot, a sharp knife and 2 sets of hands.
I guess it depends if you like your chickens more than your neighbor's cats. I would either shoot the predator, or trap it and move it. With a live trap, you might find out it is not your neighbor's cat, but rather a coon, possum or mink. All three will kill chickens.
