Meet Cammi, a sassy 1 yr old Cream Legbar chicken.
She and her other cream legbar have always had a hefty sack back there, so i never thought anything of it. (The other cream legbar died though because of egg peritonitis.)
Over the last couple weeks or so, i have noticed we dont have her...
Here are the 15 week old beauties! Sienna is the darker and showing both sides for the camera. Stormy is the one with more pronounced orange on her neck.
I have also noticed, interestingly, that the biological mama hen were of the most aggressive hens toward the chicks. Daddy roo (Tucker) has gone back and forth between protecting them and pecking at them.
I wanted to give an update now and post photos another time:
10 WEEKS OLD
Chicks have integrated into the flock and are now showing signs of standing up for themselves among the adults.
Here is what I did for integrating them.
6 weeks old: moved them into fenced cube inside chicken run with...
About two months ago, Cammi got bumblefoot on both her feet. This is our first time treating bumblefoot, so we don't really understand the process I guess. We did several epsom salt baths and pulled out white things a few times. For about a month, we pulled of the scab and redressed it almost...
One morning, about a week ago or so, I found my rooster (1 yr old) bleeding from his spur. Since we are currently dealing with bumblefoot, we had the first aid kit handy. I took him inside and doctored it up. I am not sure where it came from, but the blood track started on the floor of the coop...
Update! Here are 5 week old pictures!
- Miss Orange is exactly following the development of her Speckled Sussex father (white chest and all)! Makes me wonder if she is not a mix, and instead was the egg of Spex, our only Speckled Sussex hen. (Spex’s and Alani’s eggs could be confused.)
- Miss...
Oh! Sorry Wyorp Rock. A friend (who knows anatomy) helped with the autopsy/necropsy before i saw your post/this video. (I dont know the difference between autopsy and necropsy.)
Friend and I figured it was likely egg yolk peritonitis. We found what looked like about 5-7 egg yolks and 1 empty...
Petra passed this morning.
Yesterday we spent some time outdoors, listening to her flock, birds, nature, etc. When her flock saw her yesterday, they knew. She had a luxurious setup in the garage: straw bedding in a low-walled box, on a towel, with a fan circulating air.
The last couple of...
Update on Petra:
She has been on vitamin and antibiotic for three days now, and is finished with the 3-day streak of dewormer. She perked up Saturday, but after that, went back downhill. I think she laid an egg on Saturday too. She is drinking a lot, but i havent seen her eat. We soaked her...
Was able to get a fecal sample to a veterinarian today. He saw a “larvae” which means Petra has worms. Such a relief, at least a little. Vet also questioned her having runny diarrhea (its basically 99% watery), so he also prescribed an antibiotic (Baytril) and a vitamin (Lixotinic?).
We are...
Though I have never seen Petra lay an egg myself, I only have my best guess by elimination for what egg is hers and I havent seen that egg in a while. (I figure its her egg because her breed lays the prettier blue egg and its only Petra and Cammi for their breed. Petra’s egg I have always...
