    Mix breeds and egg colors

I have some BCMs. The hens are super sweet! A great addition to my flock. One even went broody last summer.

    Least aggressive roosters?

Wish I had read this BEFORE the purchase of my late Black Copper Maran rooster. He eventually went too aggressive and ended up in the freezer after trying to attack our elderly, super loving/kind cat. (She never met anyone she didn't like.) He also attacked me several times before that fateful...

What do you do if you end up having roosters and aren’t allowed to have them?

So sorry this is happening to you. :( I got mine from Meyer Hatchery and was able to pick both the breed and the gender. It only cost a little more to guarantee sex which is so worth it. You just have to pick the chicks up at your local post office so they don't sit in a truck all day before...

    First Time Mother Hen

We got our first flock in the late summer 2022. When it was complete, I had five Blue-Laced Red Wyandotte hens, five Easter Egger hens, five Black Copper Maran hens and one Black Copper Maran rooster. I currently have a total of twenty four. My flock consists of some Blue-Laced Red Wyandottes...

Too Many Roos - How to Best Cover Them for Cold Temps?

The original rooster wasn't mentally right and was agressive with me and went after the most kind, gentle, elderly cat ever, and I put him in the freezer. The current ones are very nice to people and cats, so I can't bring myself to do it personally, and I don't know anyone who would do it for...

Is there any coming back from this rooster situation?

Doomed! Don't count on them every making friends again. The agressor won't stop until all the other roosters are dead. A horrible way to go. I'm ran into the same situation. The only choice is to rehome/cull the agressor. I made the mistake of letting them get back together after a little...

Too Many Roos - How to Best Cover Them for Cold Temps?

I wish I could move them inside but my coop isn't large enough for the kennels and loose chickens (20-21) at the same time depending on if I cage the youngest one too. :( I can't wait too many more days because the bossiest rooster is now picking on the hens too.

Too Many Roos - How to Best Cover Them for Cold Temps?

I had some hens go broody last summer and sat on the eggs for a while. Then they abandonded them so I put the eggs in a brooder. Of the nine that survived, I got five roosters hatched this past August. I have a coop/run large enough for them all, but the roosters aren't getting along any more...
