    Does this plan hold water

So, ducks first, huh? Congrats and best wishes on finding the ones you want. I've only ever bought mine from an area breeder who -- sadly -- is now out of the business. Daily water dumping is a good idea, and I forgot to mention that runner ducks (the only breed I have first-hand experience...

Well, Brianna doesn't seem impressed, but I think it looks like you had a great trip :). Congratulations on classes and your BYC anniversary!

    Loving orpingtons

Your post title pulled me in. One of my original hens was a Buff Orpington. She was the only one in her coop to escape a murderous mink attack and spent the remaining years of her life as the Queen of All She Surveyed. Welcome to BYC; it's good to meet you!

Congrats on the shelf. My projects are more elaborate in my mind, but end up more simple, based on my skill set. So, you also don't need headlights on your riding mower?! I don't know if mine work because I've never had the urge to run the darned thing after dark. However, as mine is still...

    Introduction

Geese are wonderful creatures, aren't they? Endlessly entertaining and great to look at, too. Best wishes with the goslings now and chickens in the future! Welcome to BYC, Emma; it's good to meet you.

Sounds like a lovely flock with interesting names! Welcome to BYC -- congrats on your hatch and good luck selling chicks!

Regarding ducks that can't fly well but are good egg producers: I strongly recommend runner ducks. The best-ever flyer in my flock could get almost 4 foot high (the height of one of the chicken runs) but she'd would sink like a rock after about 2 seconds of being airborne. Runners' tiny wings...

    Dead duck!

I am very sorry about your drake. It's especially frustrating when you've taken the time and spent money for veterinary treatment -- have tried to do everything right -- and your poor bird still doesn't survive. Hope the rest of your ducks are and stay well.

I drove over to Decorah yesterday for the annual plant sale at Seed Savers Exchange. I bought tomatoes, peppers, chives and some bunny tails for my deck planters. Got one of my all-time favorite tomatoes, Cherokee Purple. Met up with Michael and one of his friends there, and we headed downtown...

Poor Matt! I'm sure it's a relief that he stopped honking -- I love my geese, but I wouldn't want to listen to them indoors for too long. Congrats on finishing up your semester! As always, great photos -- and I like Brianna's window perch.

I was planning to do that when the kittens were six weeks old and able to be weaned, as per my vet. Now, I don't know what to do. On the good news front, one of my neighbors said this morning that she would take the kittens. Linda's property is on a less-traveled gravel road, not adjacent to...

Congrats on your new flock of adorable chicks! It sounds like there's plenty of personality and some really fun names. I've never seen a Cookies and Cream chick before. The coloring is striking!
