Regarding ducks that can't fly well but are good egg producers: I strongly recommend runner ducks. The best-ever flyer in my flock could get almost 4 foot high (the height of one of the chicken runs) but she'd would sink like a rock after about 2 seconds of being airborne. Runners' tiny wings...

I am very sorry about your drake. It's especially frustrating when you've taken the time and spent money for veterinary treatment -- have tried to do everything right -- and your poor bird still doesn't survive. Hope the rest of your ducks are and stay well.
