Thank you so much for your response. I’m really new to chickens, I can understand most basic breeds but the colouring/patterns I have no idea. How can you tell if baby is a silver laced or birchen? Do you look for certain patterns in the feathers etc! (Hope that makes sense) Your guess of pullet...
Hi there, I have this little baby. Dad is a white silkie, mum (I believe) is a silkie cross Japanese bantam. What would you call the colouring etc. I also did a feather dna for gender. Any guesses on whether it is male or female?
Chick is almost 7 weeks old
Hi, this little darling hatched today. Possible fathers are a polish or a silky. Mum is a pure polish. Is this chick a polish? Any ideas on gender? All replies are much appreciated x
The mystery of the gender and the mother has finally been solved. I truly can not thank you enough for responding to this thread, your advice, opinion and knowledge has been invaluable. I have learnt from you along the way and I truly appreciate it
Thank you again for sharing your knowledge, I am learning a lot from you. The Japanese have light legs so if my chick is a male then his mum is the polish hen. So interesting.
Thank you for your response. It’s given me some great information. So far baby has no wattles and the comb is turning a dark mulberry colour on top? Either way, I will love this little baby because I have raised it from a week old and it is just the sweetest little thing, follows me everywhere...
Thank you Nat. The baby has a silkie dad and either a Japanese bantam mum or a polish mum, I’m not sure. Is there any other things to look for that may indicate a rooster?
