Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Still enjoying raising chickens and ducks. Reduced flock from 60+ to about 12 (sold the younger ones) due to being unable to deal with a large flock due to injury. Have a broody duck, so waiting to see what happens there.

    Pellet vs Free Range/Foraging

We too have a bad drought here in NC that strongly cut down on my garden yield that I could fee my large flock. It and the very humid heat is stressing the chickens for sure.

    Pellet vs Free Range/Foraging

I do think its good to feed chickens commercial feeds, but I also do not dismiss the importance of fresh food for a balanced diet for poultry of all kind. I feed my chickens and ducks commercial food from Tractor Supply, but I also feed them vegetables from my garden. They seem to love my...

    Aggressive Rooster

They are both two and a half years old. I have 24 hens of different breeds. I too thought the sterile roosters was odd, but I was basically mentioning that to see if anyone else had heard about Cream Legbar rooster sterility. The cream legbar rooster is very docile and protective of the flock.

    Aggressive Rooster

Hello BYC community! I have an issue that I need advice on that I didn't see posted already. I have two Roosters, a Gold Laced Wyandotte and a Cream Legbar rooster who share the same large run area. We don't have anymore room to expand the pen and can't afford the building materials anymore to...

Help with chicken breeds and rooster question

We have a Cream Legbar hen and Rooster. We have a Gold Laced Wyandotte hen and Rooster with two very different temperaments. The hen is docile and peaceable and the rooster is beautiful, yet a bully to the other hens and the ducks. Luckily our cream legbar rooster keeps him in his place with a...

Review by 'BigTex19' in article 'How Much Room Do Chickens Need?'

A very good, and well thought out article. I tend to want to give my chickens and ducks more room than they need. I wake up at 6am every morning to let them out and put them all up whenever the sun goes down. I take care of my birds because they take care of me.

Chicken Myths/Rumors: True or False, Please Share!

I fully understand why you want to stay away from stress and arguments. You have been through some things. God has calmed me down a lot. 10 years ago I would have cussed that lady out which never solves anything. As you read, I stayed calm and respectful, but I also should have remembered that...

Chicken Myths/Rumors: True or False, Please Share!

Domestic Chickens are hardy enough to survive in the wild if they end up in that situation. Some chickens are still wild and thrive just as well as their domestic counterparts. Many will argue that wild chickens are more durable than the domestic chicken because of their survival skills God gave...

Chicken Myths/Rumors: True or False, Please Share!

Unfortunately at this point, no facts or convincing could sway that persons mind. It is because of politics I got into raising chickens or ducks believe it or not. As a constant student of History, from the ancient Babylonians, all the way to Chairman Xi, I see where this country is going to and...

Chicken Myths/Rumors: True or False, Please Share!

I apologize for getting the topic off chickens. I too love this site as a place to learn about raising chickens and ducks from people who have done it way longer than me. I allowed my patriot side to come out in as respectful manner as possible. Though I am no longer in the Army, I guess I still...

Chicken Myths/Rumors: True or False, Please Share!

Yes, vaccine requirements have been around for years, but they have always been voluntary because there are religious, and philosophical exemptions people and parents are allowed. You weren't refused medical care, lost your career, etc. if you didn't get the vaccines offered in the past. Also...

Chicken Myths/Rumors: True or False, Please Share!

I understand your fears, but you have to understand that God made our immune systems to be able to handle these things. In the event that someone has medical issues that make them more likely to become more sick, or die from a virus, trust me, we take precautions. I lost the use of half of my...

Chicken Myths/Rumors: True or False, Please Share!

This is the perfect way of helping others through the instructions of a wise parable by an unknown Author. "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day; teach a man how to fish, feed him for a lifetime." I grow a big garden too and love the way it makes me feel to give those around me, and my Church...
