    Lump on chicken’s breast

We have 2x4 wooden planks for our roosting bars, so I don’t think crop rubbing is the problem. None of my other chickens have the crop problems, it’s just Jelly. I’ve also seen other chickens pecking at her, and she’s been pillion out feathers herself. I’m pretty sure she is feather pulling...

    Lump on chicken’s breast

I’ve made a post about this chicken pretty recently regarding a patch of missing feathers over her crop. At first, I didn’t really think much was really wrong, maybe just some feather picking. It’s over her crop, as I said earlier, so a lump isn’t really that concerning. I’ve begun to monitor...

Missing feathers on my chicken’s breast

My parents and I have noticed that while her crop does empty and the area does flatten, there is still a hard lump that remains over the crop. She’s clearly got some genetic issues, as shown by her scoliosis, so we are a little worried that there may be a different problem. We are trying to make...

How can I make my chickens happier?

yeah, I hatched five little ones in December, so I know the feeling haha. I was so worried about all of them, hoping that I wasn’t leaving the first hatchlings in the incubator too long while the other ones hatched, making sure the temp and humidity is good, making sure they are all in good...

How can I make my chickens happier?

What you are doing is absolutely amazing! I’ve got a flock of twelve and I do often feel the same way. Your chickens clearly love you very much, and I would say that they are already extremely happy. Your girls have a great chicken parent, and I don’t think they could wish for anything better...

Missing feathers on my chicken’s breast

Her crop is emptying normally, so that’s a good sign. Nice and flat in the morning. She’s started eating now, so I will check her crop again later to make sure it is filling properly as well.

Missing feathers on my chicken’s breast

That is definitely a possibility! She takes dust baths just as frequently as my other girls, but it is highly possible that she is less effective in her cleaning. And I will be sure to check her crop in the morning!

Missing feathers on my chicken’s breast

Just looked her over, no bugs in sight, but her skin does look pretty dry and flakey. Could this be a potential cause for her feather loss, or is that unrelated?

Missing feathers on my chicken’s breast

Her crop feels normal, pretty hard and full. I will check in the morning to see if she is clearing it normally. She is able to move her head pretty well, but she has to turn her body to peck at things on the ground. I will look her over for mites as soon as I can. None of my other chickens are...

Missing feathers on my chicken’s breast

This is Jelly. She has scoliosis, so she isn’t shaped quite right, and I’m wondering if this might be part of my issue. She is missing feathers on the right side of her breast, but doesn’t appear to be missing any feather on her back. I was just wondering if it’s possible that my rooster might...

What breed is my black chick?

She’s beautiful! Looks like she might be a sapphire gem. She’s gorgeous whatever she is haha

Is it normal for my four month old rooster to be shaped like a bowling ball?

He is a very solid boy. His wings always kind of hang like that, and I believe that it’s a result of his size. I haven’t seen his dad around in a long time, I think his owners have been keeping him closer to home. My hens don’t really like that he’s trying to be dominant, so there have been a...

Is it normal for my four month old rooster to be shaped like a bowling ball?

He eats, walks, runs, and flies perfectly fine. He’s completely normal aside from his strange shape. We aren’t sure what breed his father is, so we can’t really say much about his possible ancestry. We know it is certainly possible that he could be some sort of meat bird cross, but given how big...

Is it normal for my four month old rooster to be shaped like a bowling ball?

He can walk and fly perfectly fine. He can clear a five foot fence easy. He eats very well, straight from my hand. He acts alright, but he gets bigger and wider as he gets older. He doesn’t feel squishy or anything, it just feels like an excessive amount of muscle- I’m just wondering if I need...

Is it normal for my four month old rooster to be shaped like a bowling ball?

This is Bean. Bean is my first rooster, so I’m not really sure what they are like developmentally. I’m just a bit concerned by how he is shaped. He is also extremely heavy compared to all of my other chickens. I know his dad is very big, so I understand that he may just be a very large...
