Yes, if you are in a mild climate and they are only sleeping and laying eggs in there it should be fine, but I wouldn't push it to much further as behavioral issues are going to arise.

With your humidity a misting system is only going to make things worse (I live in Texas and speak from experience, lol) Just keep doing what you're doing, maybe some electrolytes a couple times a week in extreme heat.

No need for gloves. If the chick died because it fell out and got cold, then I'd tack a piece of cardboard or something to the front of the nest to create a lip so they can't fall out, after everyone hatches you can move them if you like.

kudos for salvaging most of your materials! I'd recommend investing in some hardware cloth, it will help keep your ladies safe, chicken wire will not keep out predators.
