    Americauna Hen turned Rooster...kindof

Hi All! I have a 3 1/2 old Americauna that within the last 24 hours has gone "Rooster". I have read other posts here and have come to the conclusion she is exerting dominance. She lays beautiful greenish-blue eggs and have had her for so many years, that there is no confusion about sex...

I need the knowledge of the BYC community...pasty butt advice.

I lost a red island red last week to adult "pasty butt". My husband and I tried to clean off the stuck poo but she went beserk and died immediately. And now it looks like I have another girl with it - she is a barred plymouth rock. Husband and I are going to clean her up tonight when they...

Update on GROUNDS Coffee Ground Bedding for your coop!

Hi @humblehillsfarm I order mine from... https://graniteseed.com/product-category/planting-aids/rice-hulls/ but it can be purchased in smaller amounts from other places. I usually get the 25 lb bag because it lasts a long, long time! It may seem expensive but in thinking about how many...

Update on GROUNDS Coffee Ground Bedding for your coop!

I mix mine with rice hulls...both are easily scoopable and are fine enough for the poop to lay on top, dry the poop nicely, and easy to clean.

Heat Stress Not Abating...And Now This...! Weird Mass

Thank you...I had no idea but now do...she does not seem happy at all today. Won't stand, breathing with some labor, and barely talks. It looks to me like she is on her way out.

Heat Stress Not Abating...And Now This...! Weird Mass

So since this has happened, from your suggestion to do research and since where I live there are not vets to prescribe antibiotics, and since this has occurred, she is most likely too far gone for any antibiotics to work, I guess we are going to have to do the humane thing to stop her suffering?

Heat Stress Not Abating...And Now This...! Weird Mass

Hi All, I really need help on this one... Back Story...Four nights ago, I noticed my Lavender Buff Orpington (Legs) not seated properly, kindof frompy and a little lop sided) on the roost bar in our coop. I thought she was trying to recover from the massive heat we have been having. I have...

Update on GROUNDS Coffee Ground Bedding for your coop!

Hi @humblehillsfarm and fellow chicken lovers! Yes...www.powerbycoffee.com does have a website and it does state that the product would be available in February 2021 at Tractor Supply but that is not entirely true. There is a "Buy Here" button on the landing page but takes you to a 404 Error...

How to kill chick please asap!!

I can’t even begin to be in your place... I have not put down a bird but my husband has...he did not want to do it but he did it for the me and the rest of the flock. Be humane and do what has to be done...it hurts but you are not that invested...if you had that girl for 4 years it would be much...

Calling All Swedish Flower Hen Owners!

I might be the outlier here but when my Ameraucana, Wizzygig, went broody 5 times in 2 1/2 months, and after having broken her in our broody-breaking set-up, I threw my hands up and said, "defeat". I saw online in the local classifieds a breeder who was selling SF eggs and drove 2 hours to pick...

Is It Too Soon To Reintroduce Back Into Flock After Serious Injury???

Hi @Eggcessive ... I will be putting her outside in the crate for a couple of days when I get ready to put her with the flock again...I have used Blu-Kote other times but not for something like this...the wound is better but still, in my opinion, kind of deep. I just didn't know if she needs to...

Is It Too Soon To Reintroduce Back Into Flock After Serious Injury???

Nine days ago, I found my Lavender Orphinton had been mauled by what started as overzealous breeding of my Cockerel who has started mounting my girls. It appeared he had bitten into the back of her neck, drawing blood which brought on the flock tearing at her wound and causing significant injury...
