Rest in peace, Ruffnut, Tuffnut, and Aethelstan. We love you and miss you! Aethelstan, you cheered everyone up with your goofy acts all the time, and you were always first to any tidbits. Ruffnut, thank you for protecting the flock until your very last day. I hope that, wherever you are, there are enough tasty treats to go around with all the girls so you don't have to go treatless.

Aethelstan (a Naked Neck) was snagged by a hawk, and that same night we think Ruff and Tuff (who are both male Polish and are the coop protectors) were caught by a fox 😔. The really sad thing is that it was actually Aethelstan's birthday.

Well, that's actually inaccurate. It was the day we got her from our local Rural King, not her hatching day. But it's her official adoption day!

Tuffnut, you were the star of our coop's soap opera, and our yard is strange and drama-free without your kooky Polish slapsticks. Your crows were the most distinctive thing I've ever heard (aside from Fernando's) and they always were a wonderful soundtrack to my day. I miss all three of you, and I'm glad I got to know you guys for a while.
