I have always collected rocks. I still have the special ones I collected as a kid in a rock/flower garden that I'm always adding to. Rocks are easy keepers ;)
Ate our first home raised chicken last night and, wow what a difference from store bought birds! Almost reminded me of a cross between a chicken and a turkey. The dark meat was so different, so much darker, so much more flavor... The white meat was very yummy too and there was more of it then I...
... Have you ever seen the gloves with a patch of fur on the back of the hand in addition to a cuff around the wrist... One of my friends parents showed us what that was for when I was a kid...:lau they never had a runny nose in the cold... I would also NEVER have touched those gloves! Eeeeeeeew!!!
Wow, reading about how its not just yourself your're putting on the line when you rescue, its the whole show hit home... Our last 2 rescues left quite a sad mark on us and I think I'm done with rescuing until the kids are grown if ever at all.
The puppy we found, sick, crying, covered in...
Oh oops... Think I might have ruffled a few feather earlier... Sorry about that. I think I was trying to say that there are dog breeds out there that I know *I* am not right for... Not that they're bad dogs.
I've spent time with different breeds and have found that there are some I really like...
Loving the dog talk :).
I have always loved the look of an ACD, however I don't think I'd be a good candidate as an ACD owner. I grew up with golden retrievers lol so I think an ACD would bulldoze right over me!
I have a border collie who came from a breeder near here that use to keep cattle...
Glorph - what beautiful soulful looking guy!
And it looks like you guys got some of the same frost that coated everything out here. It made this one of the prettiest Christmases I can remember. Of course this was also the first Christmas that I actually relaxed in a long time... I wasn't...
Oh my goodness! No girls do not get a fair deal when nature calls!
and now with the kids... It never fails get everyone suited up and then just before you get out the door, or just after.... "Moooooooooom I have to PEEEEEEE!!!!!!!"
Our little guys like the tractor by the way :)
Lol we had one of those red balls with the handle too! The dogs loved it and chewed the heck out of it. Then one day it was just gone...:idunno
A year or two later we made friends our neighbors down the road and heard about their dogs and their favorite, most loved toy. It was this big red ball...
No... Bare hands. I shook the water off, wiped them on my pants and put them back in my gloves when they got cold... I was over dressed for the weather as impossible as that sounds and got away without wearing gloves quite a bit and opening up my jacket. We actually waited to see how long I...
"Make a fist and see how long that stays unfrozen when stuck in your freezer..."
Lol OK... Funny and ironic side story... I have a neat picture (somewhere) of steam coming off of my hands after using them to clear the ice out of our ice fishing hole. It was -30'c.
I took a genetics class years ago and I have to say... There's still a piece of me that whimpers and wants to shrink away when punnetts squares come up. Tediously calculating out the probabilities in a multi gene cross. Oh the peas...
However that is fading now that I've got something real to...
Learned a lesson to share tonight:
Don't drop the flashlight when you're out in the chicken coop after dark.... Yes it turned off and I was left standing there in the dark and I no didn't find it when crouched down and started patting around on the ground looking for it. DH rescued me... He...
Wonder if the early snow has the bear confused? Still hungry and yet the weather say's it's passed bear bed time? Hopefully you're right and the fireworks show scared him off.
DH says no ducks.... But.... The more baby duckies I see the harder they are to resist. What colours were in the Last batch? How much harder to take care of are they anyway??? Oh my goodness the cuteness of that last picture!
Those were birch logs!!!!
I too make quite a fuss about keeping my feet dry in the winter. Don't put my good socks on until I'm putting my boots on. Having the right gear makes all the difference too, -30c can be comfortable if you're dressed for it :)
The U of S (university of Saskatchewan) puts out some pretty hardy fruit trees, not sure if they have pears but you could google them and see :). I want to get some eventually :).
