I did plant a good number of seeds directly from a freshly eaten tomato snd only five germinated. Very disappointed but realized these seed companies do keep testing their seed regularly.My tomato wasnt grown to make seeds and I hadnt thought of that until...now! lol
How seed is kept once it reaches a store shelf is likely important....not sure the seed is well cared for while in trasit or in a big warehouse.

Cold weather is sure to visit us again.....so we built a small hoop style green house 4 x 12 feet to house the 8 week tomato transplants. These are small determinant types that can manage in a small space without being overly crowded. At least that is the plan. lol

whooot!!!! Second son and first son are grafting the bartlett pears. yeah!!!! Gives oldest a real life opportunity to use his whittling skills. Boy he is far better than I at making clean cuts and perfect matches for the whip graft. Another skill in the learning.

I grafted last night. Scions had started to sprout already so nothing I could do about that. Will see if any take. Figured nothing ventured nothing gained. I,m betting the dormant scion wood on just budding stock would have a better outcome than what I have done.

Totally understand the jungle effect!! That was my garden LAST year. 2015 was the year I moved tomatos to a new area (previously used by other veg) and the 4 foot high, 2.5 wide tomatos became an entangled mess that even stakes and cages could not keep upright. A contrast to the previous year...
