The problem with crossing lines is it usually turns out bad, and is the reason others were asking what line you had, so, you could try and get a male from that same line. I do have a heritage cockeral that looks pretty good, but you live so far and it may be a different line. Do you have...
Yea, I looked at the listing, and don't believe the weights they claim. Also, the color in the male looks to light in color in some area's. I e-mailed for more pictures just out of curiosity, and asked if they knew the line they are from. I personally have never seen a rir rooster weigh close to...
That is a very good hatch rate. In my opinion Its also the first good sign of a line. There are a couple of lines, or flocks from certain lines i should say that are hard to hatch, which means they need help.
Bob, if your talking about the picture of the cockeral that henpeckmuch posted, it doesn't look anything like the ramey line, and there are plenty of pictures posted recently of cockerals and pullets from Gary rameys line. I also see nothing harch about a opinion coming from someone who is a...
I have to say that I'm guilty of over looking leg color on certain breeds. I culled some orpingtons last year for wrong leg color, but as my other post stated, I am more interested in color and type when it comes to the heritage rir. I had a member of this forum who asked me the question I asked...
Is there a heritage line of rir out there that has rich yellow legs? I know the Ramey line along with some of the others have the deep red colored streak on the front of their legs, but yellow? not so much.. Has breeding for color and type over the years the reason for the lack of yellow legs...
Ron, if you get a chance I would love to see some pictures of her and some of the bates line you have. I would try and swap you out of her if shipping wasn't so high. Peachdawg, say yours look just like the Aarons above? If you have a few good pictures of yours to give me a idea of their type I...
I lost three dozen eggs during the april storm last year, and after three more dozen this one male is the only one. I hatched out over 300 chicks last year, had over a 90% hatchrate with mine, but couldn't get many of these to hatch for some reason, shipped eggs didn't help. The ones that did...
Nice birds Matt. You would think most could see the difference in Matt's heritage mohawk line and a hatchery bird. They don't look anything alike. I hatched out birds from the line in Ark last year and culled everyone of them. I spent hundreds of dollars last year trying to get heritage rir's...
Its not just your opinion sgribble. They are not dark enough, and don't have good type. They do have some new roosters now, but I don't see any difference in this cockeral and a hatchery production red. I think this bird would be dq in a show bigger than a county fair. Just my opinion also.
