Heard the other day that 3 more years of drought is what's predicted. When I look at map predictions I'm on the line of serious and moderate conditions.
At this moment we are at 62%. Rained a little this morning and more chances as we head into tomorrow. We sure need it because out main water reservoir is down 10'.
I know it's in this thread somewhere, but would someone please remind me of the correct humidity level from day 1 to 18 and then to hatch? This is my first Marans incubation in a while and I can't find my notes.
When these are finished a dozen of my SLW's are going in primarily to check for fertility. If it's good then I'll hatch what I have. If not, I'll probably wait because all my fertile lavender eggs have been spoken for until the 5th and I don't see a need to hatch any more splits. Wished I could...
Thanks. That was pretty much my guess and I guess I needed to hear from someone else. I would have felt better about if it had been one of the Ameraucanas because I have plenty of them and they are still laying. The Marans have stopped laying and I was hoping to get my dark egg project off to a...
Merry Christmas to everyone and happy belated birthday to Vicki!
My Christmas hatch started last evening and a first happened to one of my three Marans eggs. When the thing pipped blood started running down the egg. I watched it for a couple of hours and when there was no movement I opened it...
It's probably the cook in me coming out, but after reading how the French held the eggs in such high esteem, it was the eggs that attracted me at first. When I got to looking into the bird I wanted to build the best bird I could, but soon discovered that I just wasn't dedicated enough after...
Hi, Pink, doing great here. Got the new boy in with my four girls and he's working, but they ain't laying. I have one egg so far that will go in with the Lavender hatch. Thanks on the pens as they seems to be working out very well.
Don ~ I think where I'm lost is in switching the males daily. I don't see where that is what I think of as single mating. What I'm doing now is breeding the girls to one male and hatching those eggs. I'll go back and switch the girls to a different male and see how those chicks turn out and...
After banging my head for a while these are the breeding pens I came up with. The PVC only cost like $20 and the houses were bartered for. My handyman (which I'm not) had this scrap material he used. Can't remember the price on the field fence, but it's already tested coyote proof. Also, had to...
