3riverschick has a good point. I have heard others say the same thing. Maybe you guys should get a thread going in the Random Ramblings section, for chit chat, and let this thread be a thread about Marans exclusively. Just sayin'.........

Just thought I would stop by to tell you all a little about the annual Mahonri Easter Hatch, and give you a little sample of the fun there. There are TONS of contests and prizes in the works. Some contests have actually already started, and MANY more are coming. (I always like the "caption...

I feed this: Kent Feed High Flyer Breeder formula. I do like the game bird feed, and I like the additional vitamins and minerals in the "breeder" formula. I also add goodies in with it at times. I keep oyster shell free choice, as well as grit. Clean water is a must, too. I don't add a bunch of...

I have found that too much protein is worse than not enough protein. Personally, I don't like to go above 20% max. I do like the Game Bird feed, but I add scratch and Boss and other stuff (spices) in it. 16-18% is what I like.

Regarding higher protein diets...... This is written by Dr. Richard Miles..... A friend shared this with me, and I think it is worthy of being passed on. Yes, you can quote me if you wish as the University poultry nutrition professor near you. If anyone calls you can give them my name and I...

I am quite sure you sent me eggs from the broody ones. I think ALL of my girls are practicing now. They sure don't want to come off the nests. I have to say though, my Marans was a good mama, and this Wheatie is doing a great job, too. She had those chicks outside in the rain yesterday. Well...

What do you do, add broody hormones to all your stock, or what? My Marans and Wheaties (from you) are both a broody lot!

I had so many dang broodies last spring...... I was in tears trying to fix them all up in nice broody apartments. Then I came to my senses and broke every broody I had! 10 to a pen. Concrete floor, no nest, no bedding. I broke every one of those darn girls! No more broodies, I sang...

Mark my words, Miss Debbi..... you are gonna be sorry for saying that (wish for a broody). No, they don't bury their eggs. Anyway, mine never did. All my Silkies have been great layers (except when they are broody, of course). Good luck with them!

Hmmm, I need to get some updated pictures of my Marans. The are such good layers, and so docile. Love them.

Believe me, I have washed plenty of them off. NO, they did not show any darker after washing. I got rid of them......
