Hi all
Just wanted to say HI!
Have been totally busy with our new little boy!
Not planning on hatching until spring - working on culling down to the very best of the best.
Around here, gender doesn't seem to affect the short outer toe genetics (can't remember what Don called it...)
Now, if you're talking about BIGGER - my male chicks definitely have more bone than the girls, almost right from the start!
Hope that helps!
Oh...hmm....well - I was breeding for more size, so brick-like might be an improvement...??
Advice - anyone??
I think his tail will come up as he grows up?
Most of my younger ones keep their tail down when they're in the bachelor pad with the older boys! (smart!)
As for the leg...
Only if *I* win haha
NO DQs - they ALL have feathered legs (or will have after they finish feathering out from their juvie molts!)
2 guys do have lighter legs, but not pink (or yellow)
p.s. what are you seeing that makes you think he looks like a RIR?
The only breeds I have here are BCM...
Roo #3
Don - is this what you were saying about a "busy tail"?
He's shy (and fast), so this is the best I could snap!
Roo #4
This guy is younger than the above boys
prob @4mths
Roo #5
This guy is younger, too...
Hi all
Been missing a while - some things going on, plus back to school time!
Time to take a hard look at my roo hopefuls from this spring's hatch - and I was hoping to get some opinions!
Roo #1
eyes are still a bit dark....getting lighter, but I don't know how much lighter they will...
Thanks, Don!
I understand what we're looking for in the finished picture and I use those outlines to keep me on track!
BUT - what I'm seeing is tails that I thought were really nice as 4-6mth old males, seem to raise up at maturity - nothing major, not squirrel, but just not the 40-45 degrees...
Hi all
I've not been around much, but was looking at the fruits of my labor from this spring's hatching...
Couple questions:
I'm finding a tail that I might like at 4-6mths might not be the tail a roo has at 1yr.
SO - how low of a tail set are you finding needs to be on a young roo, so...
haha - they look SO content! (is that THEIR pool or a people pool??)
They'll try anything once!
When is your fair? This week?
We just survived ours...well almost...
My stepdaughter got Reserve Champion in Showmanship and her goat got 6th in his production class!!
