The lavender Ameraucana “Teton” is looking like a cockerel to me. But he’s sweet! Hopped up in my lap and was content with some pets for a few minutes. But the tail is curling now too.
The olive egger “Olivia” definitely has more of a straight tail, and a narrower comb, but it’s still pretty...
I moved mine outside full time at 4-5 weeks old. It was still getting down to low 30s at night, so I had a brooder plate set up on the floor of the coop so they could still huddle under for warmth. I removed that when they were probably 7-8 weeks old and overnight temps were then in the mid to...
Here is the lavender Ameraucana “Teton” from the side
And then “Olivia” my supposed Olive Egger (but I think another lavender Ameraucana)
Do you think there’s a chance either is a pullet? I feel like Teton has to be a little cockerel. He’s beautiful though…
I have a flock of 12, now 13. They are all around 9 weeks old. I let them out for supervised free range time about a week ago (so starting at 8 weeks). I was amazed how quickly they ran back to the coop at the slightest startle. It was easy to get them to go back. But mine have been in the...
9 week update. First is the lavender Ameraucana. second is the “olive egger” (although it really looks like a lavender Ameraucana to me) Still thinking cockerel and pullet?
9 week update. Here is the lavender Ameraucana. Pretty sure it’s a little cockerel. Agreed? Or is there still a chance for a pullet?
And here is the “olive egger”. Although I’m thinking this is also more likely another lavender Ameraucana? They look pretty similar to me. I think this one has a...
I have a flock of 12 pullets (although there are a couple possible cockerels) that are all around 8-9 weeks old. I want to pick up another 10 week old pullet tomorrow. Will I be ok to just put the new pullet directly in with the existing young flock? She’s at least a week older than the rest of...
I know the whole point of sex links is that they are auto-sexing, and so this should 100% be a pullet, but “she” is almost 8 weeks old and has a large comb, wattles coming in, thick legs, spur buds…the whole deal. Makes me doubt the gender. Can someone please confirm that she is a female golden...
Thanks. That’s kinda what I was figuring. It’s not an obvious cockerel, but not obviously a pullet either. I’m holding out hope because it doesn’t really have any smut between the wings and the tail feathers don’t look barred to me.
When do you think I would know for sure?
I’ve posted about this Delaware before, and opinions are pretty split. Anyone good at sexing them and have any idea if this is a cockerel or pullet? It’s somewhere between 8-9 weeks old.
Here’s a pic of them from around 6 weeks. First pic is the Ameraucana, second is the olive egger. The olive egger has always been a little runty and slow to feather.
