Here's those coop pictures for my curious BYC pals.
Kept the henhouse small AND purchased only pullets, to restrain my addiction to hatching chicks 🤣
The 4x6x8 shed comfortably houses 6 hens and 2 nest boxes. With 2 outside areas, the girls usd the smaller side their dust bathing. We use solar...
Howdy! 😀
We use pine shavings in the nest boxes too. The hens will fluff whatever material you put in their laying area. It's just their way, like people fluff their pillow to make it comfy 😄. If you're concerned about their behavior try straw, or hemp.
Heydeedo Y'all :frow.
Hard to believe its been so long visiting BYC friends. Life has a way of swallowing time and before long a year or 2 goes byebye.:idunno
Our 6 hens are producing eggs. They're characters that add to my enjoyment outside. They're so social. If they could free range they'd...
I do wear a face covering, like a bandana or mask, because I use DE in the coop. It's irritating to respiratory system. I also wear eye covering because the DE makes for uncomfortable dry eye. Outside in the run I don't fuss with protective wear.
Is the last day in October and we've seen our first freeze here in the desert. Cleaning out the grow boxes and preparing a compost bin. Gleaning ideas from BYC on how to add the chicken coop/run 'material' to make a good composting pile.
Reading about chickens & coops can be both fun and frustrating. I like your approach tho, nothing better than a dog, sunshine and a cool drink 😄. Injecting my opinion here from experience , most of those coops in a box are a waste of good cash and whoever decided that 6 hens would live...
I can relate to the heat...and fear I'll find a hen in distress or worse. Glad your favorite hen is coming back to you!!😊
Our desert temps are always hot, but this summers been more humid than last, and our new flock has been getting broken in to outside living. Others have already posted...
Excessive heat forecast around 112 degrees. Summer is here in the desert regardless of the "excessive" forecast, its time for hot & hotter 😎 Taking a few tips from BYC, we added a Cobra Mister, (replacing with another Cobra that's flexible. the mister keeps the run dirt cool too.), a plastic...
Exact system we just installed . Husbands not fond of system not having battery storage so it'll run after sun goes down. But....it's doing the best it can😆
