@azygous I think I read somewhere in the comments here that someone asked about using Ketoconazole for sour crop and you answered that any "zole" will work. I just wanted to confirm this before using that. I have some Miconazole that I'm going to start with, but I know it's not enough for a...
I finally have my first broody hen after 3 years with chickens! I'm so excited! I would like to follow your experience so I hope you post updates. :) My girl has been acting kind of like she wanted to be broody for the past week, but it wasn't until today that she seemed to decide for sure. She...
So, I only got to candle three of them before realizing that the one was pipped and their cells looked about right for them. I took the sponge out, which didn't even feel wet anymore, but the humidity looks like it's staying around 66%. The first pippers hole was already looking brown and dried...
I put my eggs into lockdown this afternoon. I was candling them one last time and heard peeping and the egg I was holding was pipped already!! I had a panic attack and quickly got everyone back inside without the turner, added my sponge and water and now my humidity is too high!! Hovering around...
Ohh okay. Thank you! I'm actually on his list to get a few chicks around 04/02. I didn't see Spitzhauben on his list anywhere or I would have inquired about those!
You have a Spitzhauben?? I'd love one!! My friend has one, but says she can't distinguish the eggs from others unless catching her in the box. Where are you located? I'm in eastern PA in Royersford.
Thank you. No, vet care isn't an option. If I were to try and give her Tylan, how much would I give? I saw somewhere 0.5cc, does that sound right? I've never done an injection before either, so super nervous about that. :l
So, July 16th we took in a friend's 11 hens because she's moving and can't take them with her. They were all perfectly healthy. A day or two later, I noticed one had pretty watery eyes so I asked her if that had ever happened before and she said yes. She showed me a picture where it had gotten...
I know this last post was years ago, but just in case anyone with knowledge sees it, I'm going to try anyway. I have a hen that was acting a little sluggish and hanging by the front porch a lot even while the rest of the flock was walking around the yard. I went outside a bit later and there was...
I honestly don't know much about it, but as far as I've ever heard, it's just a perfectly normal occurrence and nothing to worry about or for you to do. Here is a link to tell you a little about it...
Our final count is five hatched babies, all bantams. We had 3 not fertile, 1 early quitter and a later quitter. Better than last year for me so I'm happy! The bigger chicks in the picture are ones my husband just brought home from Tractor Supply 2 days before these hatched.
