Hey all!
Quick question, I have a flock of 10 that are 8.5 months (almost 38wks - hatched 3/1/23) and several of them have been molting last couple weeks! New feathers growing in decreased egg production etc. I can’t remember when my last flock started molting but I don’t think it was in their...
I got 11 new girls from Mt. Healthy 32 days ago.. and with a 90% sexing guarantee probability is there is a Roo or two in there! 😱
I have my theories but would like the pros to give me their thoughts! I am only posting 10 of the girls as the 11th is a welsummer and I know she’s a girl!
I haven’t been on in a long time but I am on my second flock of ladies. I received 11- day olds from Mt. Healthy Hatchery on 3/1 so they are about 3 weeks old. This is my first time raising from hatch as my last flock were started pullets.
Would love any advice - I have been feeding them...
Yeah I found the “GE” dead this AM sadly. Ughh that’s what I thought.. I stupidly assumed he knew what he was talking about and when he put the box the lighting made her(him) look grayish! My lack of being responsible.. I should have make sure!
thanks!
Hi all.. it’s been a while but my BO “Tilly” has gone broody so I picked up 3 chicks from the poultry supply store and the Owner gave me what he said was a Majesty Marian Pullet (I think this one was correct) a “green egg layer” (she didn’t make it), and a Blue Rock pullet.)
My spidey sense was...
Just an update on my Mixed breed girl Mabel.. she is still incredibly large.. same size as my Bramha girl Louise though less fluff and curves. And she never grew any significant waddles! Her comb is also odd and small! I *believe* she may be laying as is squatting, her comb/wattles are bright...
I also use hemp in the coop and nesting boxes for the same reasons @DobieLover (my fellow Dobermann lover 😁) mentioned, though right now I am using both straw and hemp and i read that the straw’s hollow structure helps to insulate or something. 🤔 On the run floor (which is actually the dirt...
Hey all.. I posted pics of Mabel a while back and now she’s approx 23 weeks. I had originally been told she was a PBR and didn’t realize or know any different until I started to see some gold coloring in her barring! I learned here that she wasn’t a PBR and likely a Dominique mix!
She is quite...
i am totally following this thread!! I had NO idea this was possible!! I love Happy Eggs brand too we even have them at the Shoprite here in Westchester, NY! I agree they are the most orange yokes ever! We have the regular free range kind but will keep an eye out for the heritage ones!

Great ideas!! My only concern is I was hoping to keep some natural lighting.. in case they choose to stay in on cold days 🤔.. but I really like the idea of maintaining air flow throughout! I still have some time before it gets really cold! Thank you all so much for your continued advice and...
Hey All!
Beautiful Autumn so far here in Westchester, NY and with it has been some breezy, cooler weather! (My favorite weather!) However, I am concerned about my coops ventilation design as it pertains to the coming winter. I was thinking I could possibly put some clear plastic liner on the...
Ok here is the updated layout! Third box is out and I raised a long bar and got rid of some extra unnecessary bars! All roosts are same height. Would love any other suggestions!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi again all! Just would like opinions on my EE.. (or whatever she is).. firstly, confirmation she is a “she”.... I only ask bc she just looks so different than the others in body structure.. Kinda reminds me of a hawk! I know nothing of Sex differentiation That isn’t sex-link 🤣.. she is one of...
Agreed! I opened the two up and put a golf ball in one! Karen my Golden Comet immediately checked it out but nothing yet!
The pics are a little older, i changed the bars higher, will get a new pick once I take that third box out! Thank you all so much!! This is a completely new frontier for me...
Thank you all for your advice!!!! :bow:bow
@rosemarythyme I agree.. just thinking about the coming winter, (though not terrible in southern NY) I do want as much useable floor space as possible!
Hey all! So about three weeks ago I picked up Seven girls ages ranging (Currently) from 10 to 12wks (3 youngest estimated) to 19weeks. The oldest is a Golden Comet, so as I understand it she could start laying any day now?
I built a 6.5’x 4.5’ double decker coop (bottom is an enclosed outdoor...
