This is Jerrie the Cornish Cross
I never intended to keep her. At barely 1 week she was crushed under a waterer and broke her leg as a result
I ended up taking her home from work. She was a runt that grew slowly. Post recovery she would often perch on my boot as I did my morning chicken...
Welcome to the °˖✧ Starstruck Silkie Shack ✧˖°
Featuring stories and pictures of my wonderful silkies! There are still some standard chickens in the flock but the forum will be mostly for the silkies✨
Introductions:
1. Larry (♂️) - Hatched September 4th, 2021. He got a cut at the base of his...
Oh absolutely. I never really expected him to make it to his first birthday with how far behind he was. Tried giving him the best life I could regardless
At least Creampuff is doing well, each day she seems to put on more weight. I should really try and get a picture of her with a regular-sized...
Big Cheese passed away at 5 months old last night. When I let out the young silkies yesterday morning I could tell it was his last day. Around 5pm he perked up a little and was walking around with the other silkies, the clarity before they pass away.
Took some pictures and pet him for a little...
Oops, forgot to add those
Rhode Island Red (♀️) - Rudie, ex-battery hen, turned 1 yr old this spring. Had a bad leg injury when I got her. Very friendly, brown egg layer. A little bald at the moment thanks to a young rooster
Jersey Giant (♀️) - Big Betsy, hatched Apil 17, 2022, 1 yr old...

Ah, thank you!! I'll definitely look into that. I'll see what higher protein feeds we have at work.
I'm assuming the higher protein/supplements won't be an issue for the younger, non-runt Showgirl Silkie? All of his clutch mates got eaten by hawk so he stays glued to the hip of the runts
In early June I got a group of 20 silkie chicks. At about a week old they contracted a particularly aggressive strain of fowl pox that ended up having a 55% mortality rate. I still have 2 of the remaining 9 chicks. They appear to have stunted growth.
(White female = Creampuff, buff male = Big...
Thanks for the second opinion! I was leaning towards not infected, but I wasn't completely sure. I don't have that much experience with infected wounds
