Not much happening here, were supposed to have a bit of rain but they've been saying that for days & I haven't seen any yet.
I'm about to give up on melons this year. I started so many seeds & none sprouted so I went & bought starts & they are literally just sitting there doing nothing but...
LOL, I wish! DH eats a lot.
What a beautiful pic!
DH took down the old wooden pallet compost bins that were rotting & put up the new plastic ones I got. Some corrugated shed siding in between the pallets & fence so it doesn't rot the fence out. My compost is already looking pretty good...
I don't do much to my rhubarb, they're very easy going. When I planted I dug a huge hole & filled with compost. I only really watered the first year, unless it's super dry. They don't like to be too wet, they'll rot. They do good in raised beds (@Acre4Me has hers in raised beds). They get a...
I can't agree more with Sarah. @chicken opey IMO canning needs to be taken seriously. I'm a rule follower because I give gifts & don't want to get anyone sick with botulism. There are lots of 'rebel' recipes out there that are probably fine, but I feel like everyone should make an educated...
I think the bluebirds have eaten my swallowtail caterpillars. :(
I found my first spotted lanternfly this morning & promptly squished it. (seems early, but there was no doubt)
We were supposed to get a lot of rain last night, looks like it's completely missed us so I watered.
I can't believe...
Even my husband commented on the price of seeds the other day! He was shocked thinking they were under a dollar a packet. He then understood why I went back a 2nd time when they were on clearance. :gig
Same here. I had called about the bear trying to get my chickens & they said we had the right to shoot anything that was threatening us or our livestock. (not that we wanted to shoot the bear, lol, just good info to have)
I forgot to write down which side I planted the spaghetti squash & what side I planted the tromboncino on, so not sure which this is, but it's the only plant with it. Kinda cool looking. (it's not powdery mildew)
I found a cute little bee waterer, it has marbles in it.
My bush bean tower...
Yay! On the dill, not the butterfly weed, but that's ok, I'll take it.
I've been starting runners from my new everbearing strawberries, but I really wanted my 2nd tower to be June bearing & Stark Bros just put them on sale. So 25 bare roots for $11.69, free shipping. :yesss:
If anyone is...
I have 2 strawberry towers (one is mostly empty, I'm rooting runners from the first one), one salad greens/celery, one onion, one hot peppers, one bush beans, one with misc leftovers & eggplant & one still in the box! I do have some flowers mixed in them all. When the greens bolt I'm going to...
I have a bunch I bought on amazon, but didn't have the guts to grow the brassicas this year so I haven't used them! I'm thinking maybe next year I'll have the stomach for it. :gig
I'm at 8 GS now. I absolutely love them.
We use fire now. LOL. DH has a flame thrower he uses. It works super well, just hit them with a little heat & it changes the cell structure of the plant & kills it roots & all.
Ugh! That's why I stopped growing rutabaga - the stupid cabbage moths. I'd like to grow broccoli or cauliflower...
Since I'm still not allowed to bend yet to put out beer traps I decided to go with sluggo this year & it's worked great. I saw a couple dead slugs being eaten by ants yesterday. I'll only use it till the starts are big enough to survive a little munching.
Thank you. I know you have issues...
@fuzzi your figs look fantastic! Mine is a new tree last year but it's got little fruits coming. (I traded a friend my 15 year old fig tree for this baby)
