I plan on building perches and drop board at the same height one 16 inches behind the other at a height of 32 inches and don't plan on a ladder for hens to climb to access perches. Is this a good idea? I currently have one 70 inch perch for six hens and am going to buy eight to replace the six...
I live in RI so it can be very cold in the winter and also very warm in the summer with high humidity. Egg color would be nice for the granddaughters to see. I would prefer no strong or weak personalities in the flock. Thank you for asking before providing an answer.
I'm looking forward to mix breeds. I only have one perch that is 72 inches long and was thinking that if I selected a few smaller bird I could fit 8 hens on that perch. Leghorns are small but currently have Easter Eggers that were to be around 5 lbs each but are about the same size as a RI Red...
Thank you for your suggestion. The chicks I'm getting are coming from a Feed Store and they are only ordering these breeds plus an Olive Egger and Buff Orpington (which I will not select as I had one and she was broody so often that it was a disturbance to the remainder of the flock not only...
I currently have six hens that will be replaced shortly with a flock of seven. I'm looking at RI Reds, Plymouth Barred Rocks, Americanas, White Leghorn, and Golden Laced Wyandottes. Your recommendation/feedback will be appreciated. Of course I wish to have a mixed flock.
Thank you, Ray
One of my hens stopped laying eggs months ago and began with intermittent diarrhea and a sneeze/cough. She ate like a hog and I finally had enough and decided to have a friend process her to find out what was wrong. She was a Golden Comet hybrid. I'm not fond of hybrid hens and just about...
Horrible setup for chicks and the employees who must maintain for cleanliness and selection of each chick. It is also very difficult for the customer to pick the chick he/she wants and get the correct one. The tub method is much better as long as the waterer and feeder are suspended high...
Not user friendly for anyone. Employees get feces all over themselves and the potential for chicks to come out and fall to the floor and be hurt/die is too great. I found them to be dirty and the chicks don't have much room. Bad idea in my book and like the tub method much better and would...
