I have three chicks I’m having trouble sexing.
So a little info about them. #1 is very bold and friendly, doesn’t mind being handled but is loud. #2 is flighty and hates being handled or touched. #3 is the sweetest, shy, loves being handled and loves attention but is scared of the other two...
I came across a very bright (and extreme) diluted (by the looks of it) rooster while going through some posts. What is causing the diluted pigment to be so bright and what is this pattern called?
(Also, how could one replicate it? What breeding stock would you use?)
I have a couple chicks that I’m having trouble identifying, especially the third, any guesses? (Also, is it too early to tell gender?)
1. Has a comb which looks like a mix of single x cushion, I’m guessing it’s a New Hampshire Red x Partridge Chantecler. It has a bit of what seems like white...
We processed our rooster today and our hens have been screaming for hours. He was processed in a separate building.
Is there any other reason why they might be screaming?
I know all buffs carry black restrictors, a red enhancer and some sort of dilution gene but does it make a difference if they carry Cb or Di for the dilution part of their plumage?
What’s the difference between these two genes?
I have an egg which is at the end of day 18 but the air cell is much too small.
It looks more like the size for the 14th day. I'm entering lockdown late and keeping the humidity as low as possible so the air cell has a chance to grow before the internal pip. I've candled the egg and there's...
I’ve tried almost everything to get fertile eggs now, nothing seems to be working.
My 1 year old Light Sussex cross rooster is mating his two 1 year old hens but they are not laying fertile eggs.
Initially I thought it was the fluff stopping the sperm from getting in but I trimmed the feathers...
I’ve crossed my Light Sussex roo (has a bit of gold leakage, S/s+) with my New Hamphire hen (s+). Will any of the hens from this pair have the father’s phenotype without the gold leakage?
I’ve always dismissed this behaviour as something personality-wise but now that a couple of the eggs I was incubating turned out to be infertile I’m getting concerned.
My Light Sussex rooster (1 year old) likes to mount objects like bricks, stones, buckets and even the ground and “mates” with...
Alright, so it’s now day 8 and I’m not seeing any signs of life in one particular egg. There is no air sac and it looks mostly clear, should I toss it?
Alright so I tried to take a hand at hatching three eggs out. The first one I took right as my hen layed it on the 11th and candled it to check for hairline cracks and pores. It looked good, so I popped it in the incubator.
Now fast forward to today I got a bit impatient and decided to candle...

I have a black cockerel who has a couple dots of white and 4 or so silver double laced feathers on his breast but his legs are bright, bright yellow. I thought the loci that created black also darkened the legs. How's this possible?
I have a clutch of six chicks that are about 9 weeks old and their genders and breeds have been determined, but this cockerel has me very confused. His coloring looks like a messy crele and I'm not sure what breed he is. I was thinking bielefelder but his baby pictures prove otherwise. Does...
Hey there. I have six chicks that need to be sexed. They were picked from a straight-run assortment.

(Sorry about the quality on some of these in advance. I'm thinking there's five roos and one hen.)
Hey there! Got these chicks today and I was wondering what breed this one might be. All the others are accounted for. And (it may be too early) but is it looking like a hen?
