Does anyone have these birds? I am planning crosses with my BBS ameraucanas for green egg production and have settled on barred rocks for green eggs, I am hoping to improve blue egg prodcution with some of these production blacks, since i'll be able to sex link the baby lik the BR's. I'm mainly...
I just got 4 swedish duckling, they will winter with my chickens until spring when I can set their pond up. I was wondering, when would i expect maturity, mating, laying, etc? They are a week and a half old. Also anyone have any helpful hints about the breed? One of my blacks is crested. How...
Several of my Ameraucana hens have a rooster like longer feather or two in their tails, is this a bad thing that I should attempt to breed out? or is it allowed for the breed?
So the hawk that killed a small pullet last week is back, TWICe today it attacked while I was standing right in the flock. First it perched right on my outdoor brooder, all my chickens were in hiding except one of my big roosters stayed out to harrass it from about 2 feet away. An hour or two...
I have a hen I got free from the breeder, she's a very nice dark blue, so came from their Ameraucana stock, but lacks muffs and beard, and is shaped wrong, wider then an ameraucana. I'm assuming she'll lay green eggs, but I was wondering if I threw her in with my langshans, could I use her to...
I will be breeding Black langshans and blue ameraucanas, as I plan on crossing a few for EE production (i sell eggs as farmers markets) I was wondering if anyone had thoughts about how the extra boys would turn out as meat birds, both the pure langs and the crosses, my ameraucanas are not very...
I recently purchased some ameraucanas, I was wondering, how many eggs to expect from the pure birds, I also have EE's and I know they could potentially lay more depending on their crosses...thanks in advance
Am i correct in my assumption that blue egg gene is dominant, and that any first gen crosses of pure blue ameraucana, with either a brown (for green eggs) or a white egg layer(for blue) would carry the gene and thus be EE's that lay only blue or green eggs?
I got a couple day old chicks at the auction for 30 cents a piece,,, out of eleven, my best guess is a black sexlink looking chick, 5 black chicks that could be barrred roacks or australorps, 2 light red chicks, some type of production red i assume. These chicks are all about eh same size, what...
I was wondering about what type of production i could expect from typical hatchery EE's? I plan on incorporating white leghorn and or balck austro's to increase production in future generations, and advice on how to pull that off would be cool as well.
I plan on ordering chicks from a hatchery this week, for a small scale breeding experiement in the spring. I am looking to make my chicken hobby more self sufficient, and have some ins at area farm markets to sell green eggs. My plan thus far is to order 5 each of black aust pullets, white...
