So are there black chicken which are not fully fibromelanistic, where just the skin is black , not the interior?
I don't know if they crossed yam cements or similaire into the bantams to get this effect or by classic selection of chicken with blacker skin.
Funny enough, I saw today the little...
I'm new to black colored breeding, so I hope you may have some answers for my questions.
I recently got a black faced black japanese bantam and a chocolate bantam hen. They were with, I think a black or chocolate or fibromelanotic rooster where they came from, so I collected the eggs of the...
I think so too, or a small weasel-like critter. I once found several baby chicks and quails killed and the only entrance point was a tiny hole only large enough for a mouse or young rats. I even saw young rats squeezing through 1,8cm distances metal bars to get into the quail cage.
In this...
I had the same Mareks-Panic, and on top of it I introduced new hens a week before on the terrain (still in quarantine at that moment) so I freaked out.
But in the afterthought I think the chick was to young (it was 3 1/2 weeks old on symptoms onset) and might have had issues from the parent...
8 weeks into the adventure update...
The little mille-fleurs have moved successfully to the main coop, they are around 7 weeks old now, fully feathers. They enjoy the large space.
The "monochromes", 5 weeks, turn out to be a back mottled cockerel and 2 blue pullets (one surely mottled, the...
I had mine euthanized a week after first symptoms, because it didn't showed improvement after 5 days of vitamin injections and 8 days oral supplement. She was eating fine, alert and generally well awake, but wasn't able to get up on her feet, moving only forward lying against a wall and pushing...
Rest in peace "Coq papy"
My dear gentlemen rooster died today of unknown cause. Within 24h he lost all is power and will. The vet said that he was nearly starved and dehydrated , although I saw him eating 48h ago, and on a regular basis before.
He got vitamin shots and was hydrated, taken in...
And speaking of the circle of life...found my not-so-old rooster this morning staggering around, having trouble to stay upright, comb very purple... he nearly fell when hopping out the coop, but went on picking the food. Got a vet appointment this evening. I hope not it's the same as JC.. this...
The circle of life.. When I came home from the vet with JC I found three pipped eggs in the incubator (right on time, but I hadn't really paid attention today) and the first one has already hatched two hours after. A little wheaten mottled chick (confirmation hatch from my mille-fleur hen and...
JC didn't make it. Went back to the vet with her today, because no improvement since Friday. We decided to euthanize her. Although she was eating when possible, and on high dosed vitamins, she wasn't able to get up, just creeping around the box on on side with feet trembling.
I still hope it was...

The tiny monochromes are celebrating there 14 days. They seem not to grow (but they do) and are still very tiny, compared with the M Fs.
I'm not sure the grayish are really blue or will get black completely. If not, it's a very very slate blue...
4 weeks update on the mille-fleurs... the little ones are doing great. I was afraid, what ever JC had caught might spread, but I don't think they have the same conditions, nor that it's contagious. The cockerels have a pleasant youngster-attitude 🤭, and getting wither by the day, the pullets are...

No I hadn't yet dewormed them. They were inside and only 4 weeks old, so I hadn't thought about that. I had planned to deworm the groupe once after having them moved in with the adults.
Her poop is astonishingly normal considering she's eating a bit aleatorique. But I will observe and keep it...
At the beginning I gave her her usual chick starter mashed up with boiled egg and vitamins mixed up. But the don't seem to like the pasty consistence sticker to her beak. She kept flipping her head and tapping the box wall to clean it. She has chickens starter 24/7 in her box.
I tried to feed...
Have to upload the video first elsewhere, but here is a photo: Just now she kept (with assistance of the box wall) on here feet for several minutes. This IS improvement :)
