I think this might be their last night in the kiddie pool. They spent the day outside but I still think it’s too cold outside even with the heat plate. Tomorrow I’ll set up the dog crate inside and put half in there, half in the kiddie pool
Had the one you made the hole for internally pipped? As long as it’s internally pipped, no reason not to do a safety hole.
Are you able to keep the temperature around 99.5?
Any chance you can borrow an incubator for this egg?
I’ll share an article I found helpful.
If you hear clicking, it has probably internally pipped.
Safety holes are pretty safe and shouldn’t cause any issues as long as you make them just pin hole sized
I’ve never hatched shipped eggs but I would guess that is the problem. My duck eggs, I usually have a couple that need a bit of help in a batch of 20ish. So I don’t think ducks are bad in general
At this point, keep the membrane moist and watch for the veins to recede. I’m really sorry about the one that died. I hope someone with Call duck experience can give you advice
Oops, I see that you said you were going to try to open up the malpositioned one to try to find it’s beak. I missed that. I think that’s a good idea. Just stay in the aircell and go slow you should be ok
I’m so sorry about the one that covered it’s hole. That can happen to ducklings that externally pip too😢 Try not to feel too bad.
Can you post pictures of the eggs that you opened? Did you moisten their membranes? Can you see the bill at all on the malpositioned one?
