    Dog attacked my guinea

...owners love guinea bc they guard the flock... But they will mate with a chicken, so depending on the farmer's frame of mind, he may love him or shoot him. If you live in the country and want to keep your boy, *IMO* safe enclosure and keets are the way to go; inwhich case, welcome to the club!

Pics of Development Stages of Guinea Fowl?

Are you giving it food as well as free ranging, and is it a singleton or part of a flock? The fluff on it's head is the last thing to go. Size-wise, yours is comparable to Numi at 2 months, if a bit slimmer. A few reasons for that could be: 1) Numi was a singleton raised inside through the...

    Dog attacked my guinea

Are there wounds? If so, many of us swear by Veterycin/MicrocynAH for the simplest most effective wound care. Yes, damage/loss of more than a few flight or tail feathers can render a bird flightless until the next molt, and that could be quite a long time. Meanwhile, you'd have a very...

Matilda is going to lose her feet. :(

11 weeks-Both girls returned to the flock yesterday. They get the coop overnight along with a few calmer birds, while the rest aresleeping in the enclosed run, bc I have a few aggressive birds this season. Nomie is completely healed and though shorter and moving more slowly, is keeping her...

    Mini guinea...and her eggs??????

Doubt it's genetic. More than likely, due to her size, she gets crowded out from the food, so gets enough to survive but not really grow to her potential. I have one that was much smaller. He'd wait until everyone else finished or otherwise distracted from food before eating. Even setting up...

Matilda is going to lose her feet. :(

And here is Willow's - as you can see, she will loose a few toes.

Matilda is going to lose her feet. :(

8 wks, 3 days post frost bite: Nomie's left stump has completely healed, just in time for the other foot to self amputate. The demarcation line was lower than the left, so once it heals up, she'll have a little more heel than on the left. It didn't bleed much at all this time (last time I...

Matilda is going to lose her feet. :(

Nomie- 8 weeks- still keeping it dressed, just the little scab in the center. I guess she decided one at a time would do, bc the other is just abt to come off. Will have to do update on Willow separately, needed a break after getting Nomie done. Lol

Matilda is going to lose her feet. :(

Warning- bloody Took some pics while doing tx today. I let Nomie have a epsom soak. She enjoyed it, but scab came off afterwards. I put it back on for awile as it stopped the bleeding, and there was quite a bit of that, so not sure the soak was a good idea. Thought I took pic with scab on...

    Trying to determine male/female guineas

I used to put them in a covered kennel one at a time to figure it out. Didn't do that this time and seemed like everyone was screaming "Come Back!" But with season coming on, it was like an over night change occurred. You can't rely on physical appearance, but one morning some of my "girls"...

Went to TC ti buy water battle came out with 12 assorted Guinea kids, now what?!?!

I've never had chickens, so can't address a comparison. It seems most describe chickens basically as docile lap dogs, and guinea are definitely NOT that. With guinea, it's best to start early and handle often. I've both raised guinea in my house and let the guinea raise them. My boys have...

Matilda is going to lose her feet. :(

...and we've not had that. She hasn't sloughed off all of the necrotic tissue on her feet, but from the ankles up, it has all sloughed off. So I *think* she'll lose part if not all of some toes but not the total loss that Nomie has. Like Matilda, the bottom of her feet seem intact. How...

Matilda is going to lose her feet. :(

Thank you! Nomie's other foot is still hanging on. I wrapped it lightly today and put Willow in shoes, bc both are over all feeling spunkier and moving around, getting feet soiled. Nomie is more or less over it, now that I'm done, but Willow is confused by the new footware.

Matilda is going to lose her feet. :(

...sure anyone wants to see pictures of that anyway. But when I cleaned and applied dressing last night I was pleased with the wound. Clean and dry, no redness, drainage or swelling. It. * seems* like the entire process for her has gone faster than for Matilda. Not sure that's accurate, but -🤷‍♀️

    Versions of "chick chairs" PLEASE!

Given the complaints at valley vet, I have a feeling this would be perfect?!

Matilda is going to lose her feet. :(

How are they securing it? I saw one where they used binder clips. I had visions of those snapping open. I guess I could make holes in opposing sides, thread fabric through and tie it

Matilda is going to lose her feet. :(

Spent yesterday trying to create a sling. A seamstress I am not, so looked at rescue site- they used bungee cargo nets stretched iut with cushion for the torso to lie on. Any other day I'd see those locker bungee nets everywhere, but not yesterday. Ended up at Harbor Freight and got motorcycle...

Matilda is going to lose her feet. :(

Our winters are, in general, mild. There's just that week or 2 when the bottom drops out. They can handle it,....if they come down out of the tree...:he

Matilda is going to lose her feet. :(

Yes, ROM -Range of Motion- is what I wondered, but will avoid. Pictures today Nomie- Willow- Last week vs today- So you can see the debriding has gone well. She really hates the camera near her feet so I couldn't convince her to show her legs. I can tell they're both tender tonight so not...

Matilda is going to lose her feet. :(

Will continue soaks.🙂 I can put Willow in the bedside washpan and leave the room. Nomie tries to do shark rolls even as I hold her, but we get it done..just a little wetter. 🙄 As for Willow - We're all bird lovers here, right? 😁 Willow curls up on the sofa with the dogs and I in the evening...
