After reading that, I had to go catch my chick who has a pea/rose combed momma and single combed dad and I can totally see that now!! Mav (the blue chick) has the same just not as noticeable!
Her dad should give her what I’ve referred to as a “cushion comb” and I figured that totally canceled out the single comb from the mom but I guess not! I’ll try to remember to update this when she’s older
Prismo is a golden deathlayer(rooster) over white jersey giant(hen). She has always had a flat comb but I just recently noticed she has a single spike sticking out of it. Has anyone seen this before?
This is a golden Deathlayer(rooster) over lavender Orpington(hen), she’s about a month old.. maybe a little under.
Will she develop any color other than black with white/grey down feathers?
The first one is. Dola(the Brahma mix) is a few days younger
I’m glad Dola is looking in the clear!! But dang of course it’s my favorite who’s looking like a rooster 🤦
Agreed saline really saved my chick for sure! I used my piercing aftercare saline so I knew it was 100% sterile.
She didn’t open her eyes until she was 3/4 days old. She’s happy and healthy now!
Edit; I just saw your update. I’m so sorry :( you did your best. As sad as it is some chicks just...
Now Tombo and Dola are looking concerning too 😫 just recently learned 2 of my other chicks are cockerels too based off their color (ended up the mix made sexlinked chicks and the only 2 I got of that mix were cockerels)
I can’t keep my girls from eating apple seeds lol, my neighbors grow them. But what’s up with rhubarb? I don’t think they eat it but I do have a rhubarb plant, should I block it off from them just incase?
I don’t feed my girls anything moldy, too sugary or citrus too!
With the amount of racers here I’d imagine they sell some sort of pigeon specific feed… if not I’ll ask the pigeon owner I know for his recipe. Thank you!
He does have a mix of flowering from his dad and partial white from his momma(I’ve gotten fully white or fully orange chickens from her before) which could make it look patchy? But I did think the placement of the orange was a bit… rooster-y
If I still have him I’ll update here! He might be...
Now.. I know how behavior is easily written off as him being his mother’s sassy chick but I don’t think I can deny him being a cockerel any longer.
Thought it should confirm.. thick legs, reddening comb, tidbitting and dominant chick(I know hens can be dominant chicks, I just also know it can...
I’m getting my first pigeons/doves this year(I have experience with exotics) I’m looking for cheap but reliable and safe brands for their supplies/food? And any other info I need to know. I’m currently researching them through my ornithology books.
Not positive on breed yet, either...
