Do you mean the red patches on the feathers? I have an EE hen that looks like that. She is 4 years old and lays eggs. I don't think the red patches are necessarily a male trait.

Maybe cockerel? Legs are stocky/thick, long tail feathers. Do you notice any metallic green feathers among the sickle feathers? What breed is it?
