So the Easter eggers seem to have larger size air cells for the most part. My Delaware and Wyandottes have what seems like smaller air cells. I am dry hatching with a high room humidity.
Bathroom 55%
Govee inside incubator 32-35%
Day 10. I know bigger air cell sizes means that they need a little...
Yes I read a lot about humidity with incubation and hatching. I saw a lot of times chicks drown with higher humidity. I bought a set of 2 Govee hygrometers. One is in my bathroom and one is inside the incubator. That way I can keep track of the ambient room humidity. It's so nasty and humid here...
I am new to hatching but I wanted to also mention perhaps the humidity is too high. Your room humidity might be playing into extra humidity inside with the eggs. I read that chicks that are fully formed without hatching can sometimes drown from too high of humidity. Maybe also look into dry...
I see the blood vessels and that looks about the same as the other eggs. The chick doesn't move. All the other chicks were moving. Do they sleep or stay still for long periods of time? If there are blood vessels does that mean it's alive? The chick seems to slosh around if I move the egg gently...
Wow. No kidding that is tough to see. My brown eggs are tough to see but yours are much more difficult. I'm a newbie as well and mine are also on day 6. The only thing I can say is I read some advice on this. Keep them in until the next candle and see if there is any obvious growth.
Oh I'm so glad that one blood pip chick made it. I hope the weak one comes around! 9 chicks is great news though. I think I found an early quitter. The rest all have nice blood vessels.
This is wonderful!!! Glad you were able to help. You may need to help that second chick too. I have a newbie air cell question. It's hard for me to hold the egg and get a good picture but I tried. Is it normal to have an air cell kind of sideways to the fat end? Like it's tilted kind of sideways...
I do have the little pools and I tried but they were not too thrilled with it. They would stand on the edge and drink the water lol!! I haven't tried a mister yet. They do love when I take the hose and wet the ground. They walk in it. Lol They love frozen fruit too.
I wish I had large trees! I planted so many fruit trees but they are still small. This house was only built 2 years ago. We are right off the coast here so we get a nice breeze but the humidity is just stifling for these poor Wyandottes. I planted some more banana trees to help block the sun on...
Yeah I already decided to candle on day 4 to see what I could. I grabbed some eggs randomly just to check growth and it seems they all have the blood vessels and look like spiders. The air cells looked a bit sideways on each egg but a decent enough size. I saw the drawings and I think by day 7...
Wow thanks for the updated information. I'm still trying to decide if I will add water or try for a total dry hatch. I know that chicks hatching will increase the humidity but my bathroom seems to be really holding the humidity. It may cause it to be too high and I don't want that. If I closed...
