    15th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Been busy. Final report is 14 out of 22 eggs hatched in the incubator. Seven of these were unfertilized. One died in shell. My Cochin hen hatched 3 out of 12. One died in shell. Eight of those were unfertilized.

Checked on my broody Black Cochin. Candled the eggs. Three of the 12 were clear so I removed them. So she is sitting on 9 of which 2 were too dark to see into so we shall see.

I have forgotten what temp chicks should be at. I have my brooder warming up ready to move them as soon as the temp gets to 80 F but I am not sure that is enough coming from 99 F.

You know about putting marbles in the drinking water? Besides keeping them from drowning the flashing of the light on the wet marbles encourages them to drink. Also helps getting them to eat too. They are motion rigged.

I have chirps! One chick popped a piece of shell off though is not through the inner membrane. Gonna put wet paper towels on the eggs. Another is rocking.

I am firing up my new incubator to see if the temps hold. I am setting 8+ eggs from my meat chickens to test it out before I spend money on shipped eggs. I have a Red Ranger roo and a Silver Birchen something with feathered feet but large and not a Cochin. He was a bonus chick from Murray...

    Lemon Owlbeard Eggs

I am wanting to get some but not for the Easter Hatchalong. I am testing a new incubator on my crossbred meat chickens before I chance some expensive eggs. I have been entranced with these guys since before GFF imported them. I just have a thing for beards I guess (because I also like the...

My First (and 2nd) adopt and egg hatch-a-long of the year

I have some of my own that I am going to set. They are mostly meat birds but they are laying well for meat birds. I currently have two roosters, a birchen full sized Cochin and a Red Ranger. My hens are a black Full sized Cochin, a Red Ranger, and a Columbian/Cornish X. The CC has only laid one...

    Advice for a disabled duck

You could try blow drying him on low setting. I used that once when some guinea chicks got caught in a rain shower and they were all unconscious on the floor of the cage. I had put them on the back porch to get some sun and didn't realize it was raining. The heat from the dryer brought 6 of the...

I would like to set for this with chicken eggs. Course I will probably have to win an auction on Ebay. There are some nice Opal Legbars that don't look out of my league. If I can find the seller of rainbow eggs that had true pink eggs I might try to get some of them. My girls are taking a break...

!!!URGENT!!! Neighbors dog killed all of my ducks. This is not the first time.

I disagree with you. I used Premier 1 electric net fencing for my sheep and it kept out the dogs and coyotes. Their product is better than what you would pick up at the Tractor Supply Store. It is also more expensive. They even have solar. There are options. Raise some guineas along with the...

    Hi I'm back.

Hi I have ordered chickens again after not having them for about 5 years. I was here before but under a different name. When I went to come back I couldn't remember my password and I no longer had the email account so I started over. I was Penny Hen. (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you...
